Join the Kayuba Kayak Diving Club for their 13th Annual Kayak Against Cancer Walk/Paddle/Race
The 13th Annual Kayak Against Cancer is a kayak race/cancer walk and an American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Air and Sea) event. In its first 12 years Kayak Against Cancer has raised over $200,000.00 for the American Cancer Society of Broward County (ACS).
This event is a 7.2 mile (Intermediate), or 12.4 mile (Advanced) kayak race and charity event. Kayak along the scenic beaches of Fort Lauderdale and help fight cancer. Kayakers paddle from the north end of Fort Lauderdale Beach Park to Oakland Park Boulevard and back for the Intermediate race. Those who choose to challenge themselves more will continue south , enter Port Everglades and follow the Intracoastal Waterway main channel to the back side of Bahia Cabana for the finish of the Advanced race.
There are beaching locations/safety check points located every 1.5 miles along the route and chase boats to ensure the safety of all who participate. For those who don't paddle we also have a cancer walk that takes place along the same route. This race is both forgiving for beginner and novice paddlers and challenging for advanced paddlers. For the most current information go to Kayuba's Facebook group page Kayak Against Cancer 2014.
Prizes are awarded for first thru third place finishers for both sit on top and touring kayaks and, if enough join our event, for paddleboards and surfskis as well.
Please go to Kayuba's ACS Relay For Life team page. You can join the team and set up your own personal page as well, which will help you raise money and track your progress. The minimum cost to participate in Kayak Against Cancer is $50.00, which can be a donation or a combination of your donation and donations you collect from friends, family and local businesses. Please invite non-kayaking friends & family to sign up too - they can do the walk and gather their own pledges for the American Cancer Society!
If you don't own your own kayak, but would like to participate in either of the races anyway, please visit Atlantic Coast Kayak/Marco Polo Sup Company as they are providing rentals for the event.
