Kayuba's 13th Annual Kayak Against Cancer

Join the Kayuba Kayak Diving Club for their 13th Annual Kayak Against Cancer Walk/Paddle/Race

The 13th Annual Kayak Against Cancer is a kayak race/cancer walk and an American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Air and Sea) event.  In its first 12 years Kayak Against Cancer has raised over $200,000.00 for the American Cancer Society of Broward County (ACS).

This event is a 7.2 mile (Intermediate), or 12.4 mile (Advanced) kayak race and charity event.  Kayak along the scenic beaches of Fort Lauderdale and help fight cancer.  Kayakers paddle from the north end of Fort Lauderdale Beach Park to Oakland Park Boulevard and back for the Intermediate race.  Those who choose to challenge themselves more will continue south , enter Port Everglades and follow the Intracoastal Waterway main channel to the back side of Bahia Cabana for the finish of the Advanced race.

There are beaching locations/safety check points located every 1.5 miles along the route and chase boats to ensure the safety of all who participate.  For those who don't paddle we also have a cancer walk that takes place along the same route.  This race is both forgiving for beginner and novice paddlers and challenging for advanced paddlers.  For the most current information go to Kayuba's Facebook group page Kayak Against Cancer 2014.

Prizes are awarded for first thru third place finishers for both sit on top and touring kayaks and, if enough join our event, for paddleboards and surfskis as well.

Fundraising:

Please go to Kayuba's ACS Relay For Life team page. You can join the team and set up your own personal page as well, which will help you raise money and track your progress.  The minimum cost to participate in Kayak Against Cancer is $50.00, which can be a donation or a combination of your donation and donations you collect from friends, family and local businesses.  Please invite non-kayaking friends & family to sign up too - they can do the walk and gather their own pledges for the American Cancer Society!

If you don't own your own kayak, but would like to participate in either of the races anyway, please visit Atlantic Coast Kayak/Marco Polo Sup Company as they are providing rentals for the event.

We are all set for Kayak Against Cancer 2014 this Saturday. The weather forcast is 76 degrees for a low and 90 degrees for a high. Winds out of the South Southeast at 9 mph with a 30 percent chance of rain. Remember to hydrate well over the next few days as it takes aproximatley 72 hours for complete cellular hydration. Remember to tell your friends and family to join us for the event or for the post event appreciation party at Bahia Cabana. We have our friend DJ Shad who will be entertaining us with music and as always we have some nice raffle prizes. We will be paying our respects to one of our own South Florida kayakers Mary Faso who lost her battle with cancer in May. This years awards for most monies raised will be in honor of Mary. Looking forward to seeing you all on the beach and at Bahia Cabana.

    Hello all,

Because we have only received confirmations from 19 people so far to participate in Kayak Against Cancer on June 14, 2014 we are pushing the event back to July 26, 2014. That is the earliest date we could have the event to ensure we have all the locations available. The schedule is the same, the post event appreciation party is the same at Bahia Cabana. I am sorry for any inconvenience this change may cause any of you and we appreciate all of your efforts! We normally have many more people who have confirmed by this time and we simply want to put on a good event that helps raise money to fight cancer. Please also help by spreading the word about our event to your friends, family and social groups so we have a good turn-out. This helps us raise more funds for the fight against cancer and helps to make the event more fun and enjoyable for everyone.

This will be the only delay for the event so it will take place on July 26th no matter the turn out. Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
