Sweetwater Symposium

It's that time of year again!

If you've never attended a kayaking symposium, plan on going. You can cram more learning, experience, and exposure into one long weekend than you'll get in a year of casual paddling here in South Florida. Courses are available for all levels of achievement.

COSTS - Maximum costs have been approximately $375, including two dinners and two lunches, classes and a nice shirt.

LODGING - Get your own. Orbitz/Kayak/other "address search" centered on 13060 Gandy Blvd., St Petersburg, Florida 33702.  You can also camp at Fort Desoto County Park, but reserve early, sites fill fast.

RECOMMENDED COURSES - Please let us know in your RSVP that you'd like recommendations and we'll arrange a group "assessment paddle" with one of our local coaches to see where you are and where you'd like to go next.

OTHER - This event also offers a BCU Week prior to the Symposium Weekend for those who wish to earn a Coaching Level or train intensively for a Star Award.

REGISTRATION - Visit for forms, schedule, and other information.

The Symposium was much more fun than I could have ever anticipated. There was plenty of training available for all levels of kayakers with the Worlds Best Paddlers. The classes were small and provided so much knowledge about every aspect of kayaking. A must do for those who are eager to learn about any aspect of the sport.

Amazing weekend with lots of opportunities to learn from first class coaches. I took classes with Nigel Foster, Jen Kleck, Jake Stachovak, and Phil Hadley - learned a lot of new tips and had so much fun. Russell Farrow and Sweetwater Kayaks did an excellent job making sure everyone had positive experiences both on the water and during the evening presentations. It was great to spend time with Erica and Gustavo! I'll definitely be back next year and hope that more of our group will join me.
