Fun weekend great group of people. Tom Of Kayak Cedar Keys did a great job leading a kayak excursion & educating the group on the life at Cedar Keys. I think Tee did a great job with links to the events and maps, we missed her there. Sunset RV Resort people were very helpful and accommodating. All the pirate costumes were fabulous.

Great group, and fun weekend. Tom Of Kayak Cedar Keys did a bang up job leading a kayak excursion & filling us with Cedar Keys info. Tee did a great job with links to the events and maps. Suzi hooked us up at Sunset RV resort. They were very accommodating. Folks in Cedar Key were friendly & helpful. Glad I went.

My blue Travelon chair bag is missing. It was last seen at Suzi Yoder's campsite. It was attached to my chair. WAS being the operative word. Oops. It is a mesh bag and I want it back. I'm guessing someone thought bit belonged to Suzi and pick it in her vehicle. Great meeting everyone. weekend ended too soon.

ARR! Bad news, co-pirates. I have a work project that really needs some attention, so i will likely not be showing my pirate booty at Cedar Key tomorrow. Next Saturday's event i cannot miss, and one saturday needs to go to work, so this is it. I will still be available by cell phone if you have any questions about how to find events in town. Have fun and take pictures!!

Kayaking Update: For those of you looking to set up a paddle during this festival, it looks like the Saturday events don't start until 10 am. There are no events planned for Friday before 6 pm, and Sunday morning will be an open breakfast as well. I'll ask Suzi if she wants to coordinate/ lead a paddle at one of those times. Tom of Kayak Cedar Keys already said he'd host an eco-tour for you; maybe he could lead one at one of those times.

Once I know how many are going we all can decide on the time and day. It also depends on the tides. I am waiting for a call back from Tom to get the tide info to me. I will know then which will be the best day and time.

As you may have read, the Cedar Key Pirates in Paradise, our host for this event, are a philanthropic organization, "Pillaging with a purpose and plundering for a cause". There is no registration charge to attend this event, but if you are able, please plan to bring a small donation. All donations from this event are being used to fund scholarships for kids at Cedar Key high school - officially the smallest HS in Florida. The CKPIP crew are working their pirate booties off to make this a fabulous, entertaining, fun weekend just for you, their honored pirate guests.

Just a thought for those who are more interested in camping and kayaking in Cedar Key than attending a pirate festival, there is an event posted on our calendar in November - the annual Hidden Coast Paddle Festival that is based in Cedar Key. Check it out - you may want to attend that too, or decide to do that one instead. Link here: http://www.meetup.com/kayaking-140/events/113449412/

    WILL BE CAMPING.

    July 2, 2013

    • Tee

Hey, Nancy - there have not been any paddles set up yet because we're waiting to see the activities schedule for the weekend. My friend Tom who owns Cedar Key Kayaks said he would lead a kayak eco tour. There's an estuary that is a short paddle (and must be planned around the tides), and there is endless opportunity for open water paddles out around the islands. I can lead a 1 mile to 25 mile paddle, depending on what the group wants. When we get closer to the date - or even when we get there, we can figure out what paddling we want to do around the activities that are already planned - and those activities may include a kayak pirate adventure, so keep an eye on the website, http://cedarkeypirate.... There are some aerial shots of the islands here: https://www.facebook.c....

Hi everyone I have great news. I have been working with Roberta at Sunset Isle Rv Resort. She has reserved in my name for our group for Sept 13th - 15th 5 sites in a shade area and near the restrooms and clubhouse, for those of us who want to camp. There is also one by the water so we can put our boats there for those who want to kayak. She is also offering to take 15% off the rent for anyone who want to rent a room in the motel, rent a park model or an RV. Roberta is only charging campers $30.00 per person for the entire weekend stay Friday - Sunday. This RV Resort is close to town if anyone wants to bike to the actives in town. If you want to call[masked] to reserve, it is under my name Suzi Yoder and let them know info is in folder. I think this is a great price for the entire weekend for campers. I am so looking forward to meeting everyone.

Update on Kayaking at Cedar Keys; Tom from KAYAK CEDAR KEYS is a very well informed resident and owner of Kayak Cedar Keys and he is offering to our group a FREE kayak tour of Shell Mound, for those who want to kayak. His knowledge of the wildlife in this area is extensive and would love to share that knowledge on his tour. Tom is also offering to extend the rental time on kayaks to 24 hours for though who need to rent a kayak. I am still trying to get a better rate for our group, it might help when I will know how many will need a kayak.

      June 25, 2013

  • Suzi Y.

Can you go kayaking too at this event?

    June 2, 2013

    • Tee

Hey, Suzi. Yes, there will be some kayak tours and events, and if you look at the satellite images you'll see how kayak-awesome this place is. :) Low rates are available from Tom just by telling him you are with the Pirate Weekend (and tell him Tee says hi!) :). The coordinating crew up there is working with all the local businesses to get good rates for fellow pirates; make sure to tell businesses you make reservations with that you are with the pirate weekend. Also, keep up to date with places offering discount rates by following the facebook page.

    • Suzi Y.

Thanks Tee for the info, I am very aware of the Facebook site and others, I am keeping on top of it. This being the first annual pirate adventure trip, why not make it great. I always look for the best bargains for camping and kayaking in any area I go too, so I just want to share that information to the group. I am only introducing them to our group so they can help make this adventure more affordable for all of us who would be interested in camping and kayaking in this area. I have found in my dealings with a few of these businesses, they are more flexible to make a better deal for groups and are looking forward to accommodating our group. Just trying to help out

Rainbow says it is 5.5 miles from Cedar key but that must be before the bridge because it looks about 7 miles to me. It is the only tent camping I found so if anyone finds something closer please let us know. Bicycles would be nice to bring or will have to drive into town and deal with the parking. I have been there once.

For those talking about camping at Rainbow and riding bikes to the events in town, 24 is not a bike-friendly road, even in daylight. Check it out on Google Earth to give you an idea of the road & distance, bearing in mind that boat trailers and trucks are common. Please consider camping at Sunset Isle, or getting a room for this trip to be closer to the event.

Rainbow Campground is a bit out of town. Sunset Isle or Low Key Hideaway are the closest options. Low Key has an on-site Tiki Bar, and Sunset is walking distance from it. Both are pet friendly. Also visit the chamber site, http://www.cedarkey.org, for lists of other cottage/hotel/RV options, and keep checking cedarkeypiratefest.com - they're slowly adding the discount places.
