Hello Mike.
I would like to go on this kayaking trip with you on the Econ on 21 Feb.
Would you recommend a short (9') or touring (16') kayak.  I am not familiar with the river and don't want to have navigation problems or damage my touring kayak.

Announcing a new Meetup for The Great Outdoors!

What: Econ River

When: Sunday, February 21,[masked]:30 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Ok Finally a true kayaking trip down the Little Big Econ River....
This will be a day trip from the 419 bridge in Oviedo (east Orlando) to Snow Hill Rd, it is a 8-9 mile trip on an easy Black Water river located in the The Little Big Econ State Forest. we will be going with the flow of the river and I have been told it is passable, but do expect to have a tree down once in awhile. I would say it takes 4-5 hours to run it but we can go slower or faster depending on the group. Hidden River Camp ground located on Hwy 50 Little Big Econ has rentals available, the price includes drop off the boats at State Rd 419 & they would pick us up at Snow Hill Bridge and return us to the 419 bridge . If you have your own yak or canoe they charge $5 to pick up and return you to 419. Rentals run $40 for a single Kayak and $50 for a tandem kayak or a canoe. If we rent more than 6 they will give us $5 off each unit. I was out on this river Easter Sunday and had a good look around, I put some Photos up so take a look. We would meet at 419 bridge @ 7:30 am and depart @ 9am rental payment is due at that time. We should be off the water around or by 2 pm, again depending on the group and how slow we would want to go, and if we stop to have lunch or do a little exploring... I am going to put a limit on this trip at 20 boats, but if you went in a tandem or canoe we could be up wards to 35 people that would be able to make the run.
Take note that Hidden River only has, 8- single kayaks, 4- tandem yaks, but unlimited canoe rentals. So if you want a Yak get your name on the list to reserve it. All yaks are sit-ins. Sorry but my second yak will not be available on this trip. If you need to call the camp ground the number is[masked]-5346. In order to assure everyone's boat is accounted for and no one gets missed, I will be reserving the boats and will be giving the final number of boats on April 26 so please do not reserve yourself. Thanks!!!
