Leon- I forgot to mention that our times would have been much better if the second half of the course had been more clearly marked. I stopped at least three times to consult the little paper map which eventually dissolved. The second place guy and I both took wrong turns and had to back-track, passing each other on the return. I figure about 8-10 minutes wasted. Very frustrating.

Yeah, the guy who took first place paddled an Epic surf ski and should have been in a separate class with himself. He was a good paddler, though. The second place guy (he had beaten me once before) paddled his home-built wooden sea kayak, very fast, very light, another good paddler. He and I played leap-frog for the last 3 miles, but he had more in his tank at the end. It was a fair result.

Congratulations to all of you. I couldn’t do the Lox because I’m back to my arctic address (Massachusetts). I’m starting to train for the next Blackburn Challenge (http://www.blackburnchallenge.com/Blackburn.html - a 20-mile circumnavigation of Cape Ann, MA). PS
Jack, Was the sea kayak that beat you a high performance model?

Thanks for encouraging me to try out this race, Chuck. As my favorite Garfield poster would say, "It's amazing what one can accomplish when one doesn't know what one can't do"
I had fun out there accept for the last mile or so :-)

Chuck, I don't know if you remember me. I paddled 14 miles with you and Joe on the Banana River in Aug. I tried to keep up with you in my Wilderness Tandem but barely. I'm thinking about trying the 6 or 12 mile. What boat type would I check on the registration if I paddle it solo? Is there a deadline to register?

    May 12, 2014

    • chuck

Yes I do remember you, its not to late to register You can do it before the Race, just get there early gates open at 8 am

      May 12, 2014

    • chuck

as for the kayak just register a tandem single person. The folks who register you will be helpful bring 4 single dollars to get into park. See ya at the race

This sounds like alot of fun. Wish it weren't a race.I'm new to kayaking, so I won't be able to race just yet. If there's any future kayaking trips on JD I'd like to hear about it. I love that park. Thanks.
