I was planning a paddle to Cayo Costa independently for the same weekend. We are three females and one male (2 tents) and I have a campsite. We are planning to paddle across from Pine Island (launch site t/b/d?) with one person taking the ferry and our gear. We would be happy to join forces.

Sounds awesome. We have been there and it great! Looked on the site, nothing available. No tent sites or cabins. :-(

I was out there in November. They no longer want you to park at the Calusa Heritage Trail. There is only parking at the launch site on Waterfront Rd. for about 4 vehicles, so there may be none available when you arrive. Are there any other launch sites with parking close by in Pineland / Bokeelia?

i thought the ferry was 35.00 plus 15.00 kayak 10.00 for bikes but that was a round trip price plus 7.00 per day to park at marina. but doeseverybody have to park at the marina? is there another safe place to park and carpool to the marina?

Is it a really tough paddle from the mainland to Cayo Costa? Number of miles? The ferry is a bit pricey. However, I have camped in Cayo Costa and it's beautiful.

no sure about the paddle miles to campground... I am taking the ferry because of gear and car parking in a safe area.

My car was fine at new ferry launch place, but area was sketchy and I was very hesitant to leave my car there. You can park there with out taking the ferry but launching the kayak from their is eventive...

I vote we paddle from the mainland. We are a kayaking group and I would like to save/share on Tent site cost as they allow up to 8.
Unable to find cost/site/night on the park web site ?

This is an excellent paddle and should not be missed. Do not be put of by the expert paddle status. The ferry used to lauch from a spot a marina on waterfront road and there is a hiking / research center across the way which allows you to park for the weekend (for $10 I beleive) and there is a nice kayak launch around the corner from the lot you can unload car and load boat then move car. From this launch site you can see cayo costa from put in. At a fast paddle with good weather it can be done in hour and half, lesiure 2 and a half shallow so lots of marine life viewing accept for when crossing channels.

From new ferry launch you have two paddle route choices follow the ferry (open inlet paddling) or tuck in and wind through the islands. This was a sligtly longer route and requires good navigational skills.

I have done all three routes and still prefer the old route. Have paddled in good conditions and in bad. Got site 13 :)
