Elephant Butte: Paddle from long point to the Burger Barge

We will meet at 9 AM at the restroom on Long Point, there we will transfer kayaks to our trailer for those who do not have four-wheel drive.
We will launch on the south side of Long Point. We will paddle to the burger barge for lunch. I have a several extra kayaks if anyone needs one let me know.
The last trip was fairly long so this one will be about one half as long, about 3 to 4 miles round-trip. This will be a more leisurely trip was time to explore some of the coves along the shore.
Thanks. Craig

Interesting to see the impact of the extended drought on the shoreline.

Take I. 25 N. to the Elephant Butte exit, #83, the left right away on to hwy. 195 and follow that road to the Y at the gas station. Turn left at the Y onto Rock Canyon Road and follow that road to Long Point take the Long Point Road to a cement restroom we will meet there. There is a small sign beside the road just before Long Point.

Still on for Saturday? We have a tandem (advanced frame inflatable). Only paddling this summer was on flat water in PA. We may drive RV up and overnight on Friday.

Well, I would love to attend but I don't have a kayak but I see that would not be a problem and thank you for that. However, I have never kayaked before so that is my main dilemma. Does one need experience or any other equipment or just show up and hope for the best?

No experience necessary. You would need to a boat, PDF and paddle. If you need to borrow equipment please message Craig directly. Thanks, liz

The road to the restroom on Long Point is good. We will take the kayaks and people the rest of the way.

My car won't make it to long point because of the sand. Wasn't sure where exactly we are going to put in.
