This is an intermediate trip due to narrow channels with tight turns. On these turns, currents can push you into the banks and trees. (Bill has done it with a 17.5 foot sea kayak, but it is not much fun; it’s a lot easier and a lot more fun using his 12.5 foot river boat). Plan on paddling seven miles in about four hours. We’ll stop at about the half way point for a riverside lunch break. Don’t forget your lunch, plenty of fluids, rain gear and a change of clothes in a dry bag. Hypothermia can happen if you are wet and it is 60-70 degrees out. So smartwool or other clothing that will still keep you warm if wet is recommended as part of your change of clothes. Cotton is bad, bad, bad for holding water and keeping you cold.

Meet at the Dutch Mill Park and Ride lot to determine carpools and load boats on cars that are driving. We will leave promptly at 9 in order to drop boats at the put-in and run a shuttle. Alternatively, you can meet us at the put-in. We will start running the shuttle at 10:30, so be there no later than 10:30. To get there go north out of Madison on U.S. Highway 51. When 51 turns west, continue due north on State Highway 22 past Montello. Go north on Hwy 22 to just before the Marquette/ Waushara County line. Take a left on County JJ to Dakota. At the stop sign, take a left onto County Y. It is about one block to the bridge put- in. GPS Coordinates: N[masked] W89 21.508.

I estimate that it will cost drivers about $25/vehicle for gas. Please be prepared to pay your driver for your portion of gas ($25x#vehicles)/(number of paddlers).

You will need to bring your own boat. Places to rent boats include:
