Started planning an overnight trip down the Wisconsin river and would like some feedback. My thoughts are to schedule two day trips back-to-back with an overnight camping option. This gives members many choices. You may choose the Saturday paddle or the Sunday paddle or do the back-to-back (the whole distance).
The first leg would be Sauk to Arena. My thoughts are an early Saturday afternoon start time. The second leg would be Arena to Shifflet Bar in Spring Green.
I'm trying to find an outfitter to help shuttle on the first leg. I know there is one as I have seen their van picking up paddlers last year at Arena, just don't know their name yet. Thoughts being we drop the kayaks at the outfitter in Sauk, drive the cars to Arena and then have the outfitter shuttle us back to Sauk and start paddling. That way we avoid the messy car shuttle. Also by doing this those who want to camp on a sandbar at Arena may leave their camping equipment in their cars. When we arrive at Arena we pick up the camping gear and paddle a short distance to a sandbar and set up camp. Those who like to paddle and have a dislike for camping will have their car available and can look for a motel or drive home for the evening. And those only participating in the Saturday paddle can pack and go.
On Sunday morning we return the camping equipment into the cars and shuttle between Arena and Spring Green. We would do this at about 9:00am in the morning. That should give those doing the Sunday only paddle plenty of time to catch up to the camping group at Arena and participate in car shuttle activities. This shuttle will be a little messy compared to Saturday's but we have done this before and it works well.
When we get to Shifflet Bar in Spring Green we load kayaks and have a group dinner at around 3:00-4:00pm Sunday.
