waves from your organizer

I am taking this time to give you some background about the group and myself. This group is in its infancy as it was established in 2008. That's about the same time I bought kayaks for myself and my son (11 yrs.) I joined the group last summer after taking a few classes at Rutabaga. I really loved paddling the local waterways and sharing my learning experiences with great folks in the group!
When the previous organizer stepped down this past fall, I offered to take on the duty if the the subscription fees were covered. So, here I am... a one-season experienced organizer ready to take the leap and learn from all of our members. Believe me, I have had doubts about doing this with such limited experience. But, I am counting on the rest of the members to help.
I have been recruiting help from paddlers with experience to lead meetups. Any member with paddling experience on local and Wisconsin waterways is encouraged to become an assistant organizer so that we can establish many meetups through the paddling season. The first meeting for assistant organizers has been scheduled as a meetup this Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Daisy Cafe on Atwood Ave. Please join me and the other three members who have already rsvpd "yes". I will have another meeting like this before the season starts.
I hope to keep all levels of paddlers active in this group, but many of us have limited or no expereince. So unless the more experienced paddlers step up to lead, we won't have higher level meetups. I hope that as the experience level of our group grows, we will be able to offer more for our members in the future. I am also interested in having events that are "kid friendly" so that the families of our group feel welcome.
I posted some tentative weekend dates on the calendar in May and June. These will become meetups when the day/time is decided. Please contact me with any concerns or questions.
thanks much to all your support!
