  • Carolyn's House for biking; new State launch on Bantam Lake for kayaking

  • We are having our second annual "Let's Get This Summer Started" party. We had a great time last year and are hoping for even more fun this year. We're planning a kayak trip either across Bantam Lake, or up and down the Bantam river or a bike ride around the lake beginning at noon. The festivities will start at 4pm for those who would rather just party.

We will have fireworks shortly after dark, and I made Ken take a pyrotechnic safety course so that no one will be singed this year.

Please bring a salad or dessert and your favorite beverages. We'll have the entrees. Directions and phone numbers will be provided as the date gets closer.
Please rsvp - we hope you can make it!

Serious bummer. If anyone would like, I offer my house as an alternative. The Teatown Nature Preserve is my backyard. I have a large screened in porch (plus indoors with ac if needed) and grill. We could always take a hike on any of the trails that run off my property in between eating and drinking if a break in weather.

Well, I hate to do this after so much hype and preparation, but the weather just doesn't seem to want to cooperate. The combination of cold temps, high winds and heavy rain will not bode well for an outdoor party, let alone a white-capped kayak ride across the lake.

We will be rescheduling after looking at the current posted kayaking events to minimize conflicts. Sorry everyone, and we hope to all the newcomers at the next event.

    Bummer!

Hi Guys, posted a question on wrong site. Will we be able to drop the food off before the paddle or should we bring stuff in coolers? In my case, salad and drinks.

Okay folks, the paddle is on for noon at the State boat launch, 197 Bantam Lake Road, Morris, CT. As stated, party begins around 4:00 at Carolyn, 233 Lakes Rd, Bethlehem, CT. Anyone interested in biking, meet at same time as kayakers at the boat launch.
Let us know what you will be bringing for food or drink.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing everyone.

Mona, at this point I have no idea how many people want to bike, but it can be easy or difficult as you want to make it. The route around the lake has a couple of decent hills and is about 10 miles. If you want a flatter ride, out and back to White Memorial is nice and you can throw in some paths over the Bantam River and through the woods (to grandmother's house...).

Hell yeah! Beautiful area, and Ken and Carolyn are such gracious hosts - your parties are always amazing. I'm going to wear an asbestos suit this year, just in case...

Yes Joel, we're aware that Bantam lake is not in Bethlehem. The party is in Bethlehem. Details on the paddle and bike ride to follow.

Bantam Lake is not in Bethlehem - 2/3 of the lake is in Morris, CT and 1/3 (including the Bantam River) is in Bantam, CT. You may leave people stranded - as it is a beautiful place.
