Sunset on Guana River and Drinks at Cap's

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Hey Guys, This is my first meet up event, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

We are going to launch at Guana River dam and go south to explore all the little tributaries off of the river.
It will be about a 2 and a half hour paddle which will end at the same location.

Afterward we can meet for food and drinks at Cap's about 10 minutes south of Guana on A1A.

What to Bring: What to bring:
    -PFD(life jacket)
    -Lunch and Snack
    -extra change of clothes
    -Fleece jacket
-2 flash Lights(can be household variety)

I have had a lot of questions about flash lights. Please bring two lights one can be a head lamp if you have one, the other or both can be a regular household flash light. Coast Guard Regulations say that kayakers (we really don't have our own class) must have a light we can show at 360 degrees and a sounding device (whistle).
We are not paddling to Caps, instead we are going to tool around Guana River and explore the estuary a little watch the sun go down, then drive to Cap's to have some social time. I have been leading this trip in Guana for 10 years, I am very excited to share my knowledge of the ecology and history. We will be paddling in the dark but this is a very safe environment: no other boat traffic, large navigable channel, and no alligators (just in case anyone was worried)

I look forward to paddling with all of you.

With fall moving in, we will be seeing some lower temps in the mornings and evenings, but this is Florida!! Its seems to always be warm here! Bring a fleece for extra warmth, and a rain jacket just in case.

I'm looking forward to this meetup. I do have a concern though about the timing. If we go out at 4:00, it will be dark by 5:30-6:00. I'm wondering if we should start earlier. I am fairly new to kayaking, so consider that in my comments. Thanks!
