Where: We will meet at Joe Anderson boat launch ( diretly across the river from Fanning Springs State Park) at 9am Saturday morning. Fanning springs was a first magnitude spring until around 1990. It is now a second magnitude, but is still a perfect landmark to start a great trip. We will paddle 9.5 miles +/- downstream to Manatee Springs State Park. I suggest booking your campsite NOW for this trip. The campsite will fill fast with campers looking to cool off this time of the year. I am staying in site 93 on the hickory loop Friday and Saturday night. You can go to www.reserveamerica.com or call 1-[masked] to make your reservations. This spring is closed to kayaks and swimmers when the manatees are there. I have booked it when we can enjoy swimming in cool spring water, and take a break from the heat that May and June brings. Campsites are $20.00 per night. What to bring: A lunch, plenty of water or drinks, and snacks for a picnic lunch on the river. Don't forget your PFD and whistle. A smiling face will also be required to start the trip at Fanning Springs. Evening Cookout: I would like to try and do a cookout Saturday evening at Manatee Springs. You can vote in the poll section on what you would like to eat. I am open to ideas or help on the cookout. We can discuss this in the trip area and decide what everyone would like to do. PLEASE NOTE: By signing up and/or participating in this Meetup you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to this Meetup Group's ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY form. Mirko, Jamie told me about your video of our trip. Loved it. Can't wait to see another one. Was that deer sausage you were cooking over the fire?
June 4, 2011
I absolutely loved it! I was nervous with this being our first trip but everyone was so friendly and helpful! Other than the thunderstorm it was a great trip. I cannot wait to go on another trip!
May 16, 2011
congrats to Brian!!!! one of the biggest and most successful meetups yet
May 15, 2011
Had a great time despite the nasty weather. Hanging with everyone by the campfire was a lot of fun! Thanks for organizing Brian!
May 15, 2011
They have firewood for sale for $ 6.00 per bundle if you don't have any or can't bring any.
May 13, 2011
their taking our kayaks for free.. to the drop off.. but if we or anyone needed a shuttle, they would do that for 5 each... but if there is already a shuttle ..I am up for that instead.. cheap or free is good... We are on site #89... cant wait to get there... friday night...
May 12, 2011
Audrea, if I read your comment correctly, for $5 why not have an outfitter ferry you & your kayak from Manatee to Fanning? Heck the shuttle back and forth burns more than $5 in gasoline. I believe I read somewhere else shuttle service starts at 9am which would suit our purpose just fine. ... Darrell
May 11, 2011
I have rented my kayaks from a outfitter there.. he said he would caravan anyone up to the springs for 5.00 a head..if anyone is interested..
May 11, 2011
Stephen- oh well, thanks anyway! Hopefully we don't get rain. I am so excited, this is our first trip with the group!
May 11, 2011
We will all caravan up to the put-in leaving only enough vehicles to bring the drivers back to the put-in. No one has to worry about shuttles as we will have 20+ vehicles and a plan of action. Just show up with a smiling face and be ready to have some fun on the water. I wanted to remind everyone to bring food / snacks for the river and PLENTY of water. And don't forget the sunscreen. It looks to be rather hot, and the cool springs are going to feel AWESOME after the trip! I can't wait.
May 11, 2011
Hi Stacey - I wouldn't mind taking you guys except I can only fit one extra person in my car, as my wife & 2 kids will be with me as well & its a RAV4. Brian - thanks for the info on the caravan & how it will work. That sounds great as I'd much rather unload the boats & then take my vehicle/trailer back to the park anyway so it's there load up when we return. I'll keep your number handy.
May 11, 2011
No matter where you decide to park, be assured that we will get you back to your vehicle / kayak. I suggest that everyone save my cell number ( [masked] ). If you any issues or questions feel free to contact me.
May 11, 2011
There is a decent amount of parking at fanning springs, however not enough for 40 vehicles. :) Most people are camping Friday and Saturday night. For those that are camping Friday, we will co-ordinate a caravan up to fanning springs, and return your vehicle to Manatee so it will be in the parks when you arrive. For those that arrive at fanning, we will assist you in returning to get you vehicle after the trip. Most vehicles will be parked at Manatee in their perspective camping spots. This shoul

Stephen, my boyfriend and I would like to ride up to the launch with you. We would be glad to give you a ride back to your ride when we arrive back to manatee springs. We will be camping both nights. I don't remember off hand what site we are at. Thanks!
May 11, 2011
Oh, and is there room to park a car/trailer at the boat ramp in Fanning? Google earth doesn't show there's much room.
May 11, 2011
How is everyone planning to retrieve their vehicle from Fanning Springs once we paddle back to the park? I have a kayak trailer that will have 2 empty slots on it so I can bring someone's boat up to Fanning if I can get a ride back up there from the park when we get finished. If you're interested, let me know or come see me at site #78, however we probably won't get to the park until 8pm. on Friday.

Short Fuse Change: Because of a family medical emergency, I have to cancel the Fanninc-Manatee paddle this weekend. I still have site #90 for Fri & Sat nights and if anyone wants to grab it FOR FREE, it is yours for the taking. Reservation Number #2-9697520, under the name Herbert G. Glover. Send me an email and I'll send you a copy of the ReserveAmerica reservation documenmt. Enjoy!!
May 11, 2011
Mirko. Most people are coming in on Friday night and camping 2 nights. You are welcome to place your gear at my campsite Saturday morning since checkin is not until 12 pm I think.
May 9, 2011
Since I'm coming on Saturday, How Am I going to with the camping gears and food? are we going to have a carpool from Manatee Spring to Fannings to get the car and the stuff back? Should I better check in at the camping first in the morning?
May 9, 2011
I will be there staying on site #94 Friday and Sat. with my charcoal grill/smoker and an extra table for the cook out can't wait.
May 8, 2011
ahh ok! I got confused and I thought the camping was at Fanning Springs, not at the manatee Springs. Ok I reserved the #61. If anyone need a spot, I've room!
May 6, 2011
I can't figure out reserveamerica for this park. It shows me only 5 cabins. I can't find any other spots.
May 6, 2011
Audrea (or anyone else) - if you still need a campsite, as of today @11am on Reserve America.com there was 1 site open for reservation at the park (#61). It's RV size in the Magnolia loop. There are 2 other sites that are reserved for "walk-up" traffic. (1st come).
May 6, 2011
I think I found a spot with Down and Sissy, thanks Linda. They said cars allowed at the spot are only 2, so I'll see.
April 25, 2011
Hey there...I have 6 coming with me...I thought I reserved spot 100 at the camp site... but alas.. they couldnt find me...lol... so does anyone have a space to allow 3 tents? We can split the tents up on different sites if anyone has room... you can text me at [masked]...
April 24, 2011
oops... I just saw this meetup and the camping sites are all goneeee. Anyone want share a spot for Saturday night? I'll pay half.
April 11, 2011
Everyone needs to bring what they are going to cook since there are so many different needs involved. I am hoping the covered picnic tables are available to use. If the covered picnic tables are open I plan on using those.
April 11, 2011
I am excited to be back.. count Jose and I in... so we need to bring our own meat and then a dish to share .. or just bring what we intend to eat at night for the cookout?
April 10, 2011
We can carpool some vehicles back to the campground if needed. Some will carpool from the campsite Saturday morning as well.
April 5, 2011
Wondering if parking will be an issue at the launch with such a large group?
April 5, 2011
Herb is right. Multiple tents are allowed. The only limit is a maximum of 8 people per site, and the fact that all tents must be kept inside the marked site area.
April 4, 2011
Stacy --- Yes. Generally, more than a single tent can be put up on a single campsite
April 3, 2011
Anyone know if 2 tents can be on one site?
April 3, 2011
We will be doing a cookout after the paddle. Everyone needs to bring what they are going to cook since there are so many different needs involved. I am hoping the covered picnic tables are available to use. If not we can pile into a couple of adjoining campsites and go from there. I need people to bring a grill or table if you have one. My one grill and table will not be enough for this many people.
January 4, 2011
Site 79 for me & the family. Not sure if we'll have 4 or only 2 paddlers right now but there's lots of time to figure that out. Looking forward to meeting everyone & camp at this great park again.
December 27, 2010
site 99 for me and linda
December 26, 2010
Ur welcome...I'll reserve my site when i'm near a credit card :)
December 12, 2010
Thanks for the info Dawn. I will change the launch site to Joe Anderson Park. A shorter walk, and no launch fee sounds good to me!
December 12, 2010
Dont launch from fanning springs, drive past Fanning springs and over the bridge and there is a park called Joe anderson park it is on the road immediately after the bridge on the left. Its free to park there. Fanning springs launch is down a steep hill and a bit of a hike..I organized this same trip 2 months ago so I have all the info if you need it
