The ABC's of the Surf Zone - Free Presentation

Waves occur in just about every body of water. Getting through the waves while remaining upright can be challenging. The surf zone can be a place for excitement and fun or a location associated with terror, damaged equipment and injury. If it is a big surf day, all of your skills will be put to the test along with your level of conditioning.

Join us for this informative discussion and video presentation designed to provide the paddler with an understanding of the forces you will be dealing with along with recommended skills and drills to help you successfully negotiate your way through the surf zone. This usually is accomplished by intentionally NOT surfing the waves.  For you thrill-seekers, techniques used to kayak surf will also be covered.

A VERY good presentation. Leo has it right. Chris Godreau's words blew away ANY ideas I had of adding off shore to my fishing range, at least till I am 100% comfortable in the "Active" zone. And Hello FSKA.

Hank - The surf was less than 1' yesterday and the ocean has been calm for more than a week. With conditions like that, offshore kayak fishing is still considered recreational kayaking as long as you're within your swimming range. Just stay informed regarding changing conditions.

I added a few more words to my Kayaking vocabulary
I can also say surf kayaking isn't for the fainthearted
It's not like bird watching LoL

Enjoyed the class Chris, thanks for putting it together. Great video & narration. I always walk away with more information that I expect. Picked up some great tips for making sure a ocean kayak fits me well, including key points of contact equals better control. Perfect timing, as I'm just beginning my research for a 2nd kayak purchase. Thanks to everyone I spoke with for sharing your passion for the water. Let's get wet soon! :-)
