camping - if anyone is interested in camping, the park has it's own campsites.
This is going to be a beautiful trip up and down the Silver River. We will be meeting at Ray Wayside Boat Basin at 9:30 am, and unload all of boats and gear, and hopefully be on the water by 10:00am.
At the junction of I-75 and SR 40 (exit 352, old #69) in Ocala, turn east (right) on SR 40 and go 9 miles to the Silver Springs attraction. Continue past the theme park on SR 40 for 3 miles to Ray Wayside Park. The park is 1/4 mile west of Delks Bluff Bridge. A canoe launch is located at the far end of the park just past the boat ramps.
This trip is open to all skill level, but please be advised that we will be paddling 5 miles up stream against the current (it's not that strong) 3mph, and then 5miles down stream with the current (nice and easy).
We will be taking out in the same place we are putting in. The trip up stream is a little strenuous, but well worth it! it is about a 5-to-6-hour trip. There will be a few different places before getting to Silver Springs where we can stop for lunch on the way back. We might even be able to take a dip in the beautiful crystal clear water.
Silver Springs is full of animal life, from Monkeys to alligators, and everything in between, this is sure to be a great trip! Since there are alligators in this river, we will need to be careful if we decide to go for a dip:)
