MEET AND GREET

/// Update 7/17/12 ///

HI ALL WOW!! BIIIIGGGGG GROUP !!!! HMMMM OK WE MAY NEED SOME HELP HERE, WE HAVE THE PAVILION, A 10 X 10 AWNING A LARGE GRILL AND A TAILGATE GRILL WE WILL BE BRINGING A 10 X 10 TENT JUST IN CASE SOMEBODY NEEDS TO CHANGE. IT LOOKS LIKE WE MAY NEED SOME MORE SHADE AND ANOTHER GRILL OR TWO. LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP OUT WITH THIS. WITH ALL THE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR KAYAKS AND EQUIPMENT WE SPOKE TO FCO. THEY WILL BE BRINGING SOME DEMO BOATS, ROOF RACKS, AND VARIOUS EQUIPMENT, TO SEE WHAT IS OUT THERE. JOE RECOMMENDED HAVING A SWAP MEET SO THIS MAY BE A GREAT TIME TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE WANT AND WHAT SOME ARE TRYING TO GET RID OF. WE CAN SCHEDULE A SWAP MEET LATER IN THE YEAR. DEPENDING ON WHAT THE GROUP THINKS. BRING ON THE BURGERS, HOTDOGS, DRINKS, SAUSAGE AND WHAT NOT, THIS IS A BIG POTLUCK AND I AM BRINGING SHRIMP TO COOK ON THE GRILL!!! SEE YA'll THERE !!!!!!

/// UPDATE 7/15/12??

I will be at the park at 8-8:30 am.

I will do a basic "how to" paddle around 10:00 am or when there's enough people. if you are late and want to do this when you arrive, I think there'll be enough time in the day to do it again. - paddle strokes, and see what works for you. - mind you I am not an expert or instructor, just know what works for me.

Also, a kayak safety overview - this is important for anyone going on the trips. it may actually sound like common sense but necessary to state again.

As the day goes forward, any suggestions or questions regarding kayaks, paddles, equipment, or anything else having to do with kayaks, can be asked of anyone there!!

/// UPDATE /// JUST AN FYI WE KNOW THIS IS A SUNDAY AND UNDERSTAND SOME PEOPLE WILL BE GOING TO CHURCH AND GET A LATE START, WE WILL BE THERE ALL DAY 8 AM IS THE START TIME FOR SCHEDULING PURPOSES OF THE MEETUP ONLY . IF YOU CAN'T BE THERE AT 8 DON'T WORRY. WE HAVE THE PAVILION ALL DAY, SO YOU CAN SHOW UP WHEN YOU CAN. IF THE PARK LIMITS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE INTO THE PARK CALL LINDA @[masked], IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CAN'T GET INTO THE PARK BECAUSE THEY LIMITED THE CAPACITY, YOU CAN PARK AT THE Alamacani Boat Ramp ACROSS FROM THE PARK AND PADDLE OVER. WE SPOKE TO FIRST COAST OUTFITTERS THEY HAVE AGREED TO HAVE SOME KAYAKS THERE FOR DEMO .. With all the new members, we decided to schedule a "meet and greet" outing. we will have a cook out/pot luck; this is a family outing, so all are welcome! PLEASE NOTE: Park rules state no alcohol beverages.

Huguenot Park offers visitors waterfront campsites, a bird observation area, and gorgeous views of some of North Florida's remaining natural areas. Amenities include swimming, fishing, surfing, a boat launch area, picnic shelters, restrooms, and shower facilities. The park is also a part of the Great Florida Birding Trail.

We have reserved pavilion #2! it's in the name of Ralph Murphy.

The park opens at 8 am and closes at sunset.

The entrance fee to the park is a $1 per person before 10 am and $3 per car (up to 6 people) after 10 am.

I am working on some "self help" group stuff, and once it's in place I will post.

We can paddle before lunch, then chill, have lunch, and maybe get brave enough to paddle the surf after lunch.... maybe not me

I believe that lunch will start grilling around 11:30 am and go till it's done.

What to bring:

Kayak, Paddle, and PDF

sunscreen; bug repellent

might want to bring some beach chairs

Lunch - we will have the grill for anyone wanting to grill, just bring what you want.

Snacks

drinks - plenty of water

towels, dry clothes (unless you don't care)

and anything else you want to.

Yes we are considering doing this again, we are going to try to get some more coordination to make it bigger and better. sorry about not getting the extra assistance and training the next time we WILL have a mini camp done.

However, the people that I did speak with were very friendly and laid back like myself. Ralph and Linda you guys are awesome and I look forward to paddling with you guys in the near future.

    Thank for setting up this event. Sounds like we're all going to have a great time. I am planning to be there around 9 am, but I don't have my own Kayak or PDF. Do I need to purchase a PDF or will First Coast Outfitters have some available? I went kayaking today at Anastasia State Park...it was so much fun. I'm looking forward to gaining more experience and feeling more confident. See you on the 22nd.

    Hi all, we have the Pavilion, First Coast Outfitters has agreed to bring out some demo boats. With all the people that are leaning toward buying a first Kayaks, second kayak, or tips, this will be a great opportunity to see what is out there. Just an FYI, I you have any DIY stuff bring it alone. I'm sure this will be the perfect forum top help each other out.. Keep in mind, for anything short of a hurricane WE WILL NOT HAVE A RAIN OUT!!! I am bringing the grill possible two depending on out

    Linda, try to get with First Coast Outfitters to see if they can be available for a demo day. we have a few people that are in the market for their first kayak and some that are looking into buying a new one. I know their schedule fills up quick with the tours and they may be able to work from the trip from the meetup location. we had 28 people on the last meetup and this one may be pretty close the way things are trending.

    I'm shooting for July 22. but I need to confirm a few things first. one being the pavilian. I have some free time this week and will be making phone calls.
    I'm wondering if people would like to paddle from the other side of Heckshire to the beach. I will be entering though the parks enterence and set up.
    any thoughts?
