/// UPDATE 7/15/12??
I will be at the park at 8-8:30 am.
I will do a basic "how to" paddle around 10:00 am or when there's enough people. if you are late and want to do this when you arrive, I think there'll be enough time in the day to do it again. - paddle strokes, and see what works for you. - mind you I am not an expert or instructor, just know what works for me.
Also, a kayak safety overview - this is important for anyone going on the trips. it may actually sound like common sense but necessary to state again.
As the day goes forward, any suggestions or questions regarding kayaks, paddles, equipment, or anything else having to do with kayaks, can be asked of anyone there!!
/// UPDATE /// JUST AN FYI WE KNOW THIS IS A SUNDAY AND UNDERSTAND SOME PEOPLE WILL BE GOING TO CHURCH AND GET A LATE START, WE WILL BE THERE ALL DAY 8 AM IS THE START TIME FOR SCHEDULING PURPOSES OF THE MEETUP ONLY . IF YOU CAN'T BE THERE AT 8 DON'T WORRY. WE HAVE THE PAVILION ALL DAY, SO YOU CAN SHOW UP WHEN YOU CAN. IF THE PARK LIMITS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE INTO THE PARK CALL LINDA @[masked], IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CAN'T GET INTO THE PARK BECAUSE THEY LIMITED THE CAPACITY, YOU CAN PARK AT THE Alamacani Boat Ramp ACROSS FROM THE PARK AND PADDLE OVER. WE SPOKE TO FIRST COAST OUTFITTERS THEY HAVE AGREED TO HAVE SOME KAYAKS THERE FOR DEMO .. With all the new members, we decided to schedule a "meet and greet" outing. we will have a cook out/pot luck; this is a family outing, so all are welcome! PLEASE NOTE: Park rules state no alcohol beverages.
Huguenot Park offers visitors waterfront campsites, a bird observation area, and gorgeous views of some of North Florida's remaining natural areas. Amenities include swimming, fishing, surfing, a boat launch area, picnic shelters, restrooms, and shower facilities. The park is also a part of the Great Florida Birding Trail.
We have reserved pavilion #2! it's in the name of Ralph Murphy.
The park opens at 8 am and closes at sunset.
The entrance fee to the park is a $1 per person before 10 am and $3 per car (up to 6 people) after 10 am.
I am working on some "self help" group stuff, and once it's in place I will post.
We can paddle before lunch, then chill, have lunch, and maybe get brave enough to paddle the surf after lunch.... maybe not me
I believe that lunch will start grilling around 11:30 am and go till it's done.
What to bring:
Kayak, Paddle, and PDF

might want to bring some beach chairs
Lunch - we will have the grill for anyone wanting to grill, just bring what you want.
drinks - plenty of water
towels, dry clothes (unless you don't care)
and anything else you want to.
