Humanist Study Group - Moral Tribes
This group is devoted to the study of humanism and related topics including the sources of human ethics and morality, how the brain works, anthropology and sociology. This meeting will be at our new location. It should be easy to find at the southwest corner of 95th & Mission Road in Johnson County, Kansas. The apartment building is just to the west of the bank building. Please do not park in spaces reserved for residents.
We have started a new book: Moral Tribes by Joshua Green, assistant professor of psychology at Harvard University. The book examines how we make moral decisions and shows how human morality evolved in small groups. He concludes by proposing ways by which morality can applied on a broader world-wide basis.
This time we will discuss chapter 2 and maybe chapter 3 (through page 102), so read as much of that as you can. If you are interested in the subject, come to the meeting no matter how much you have read.
This is a potluck, so bring some food, snacks or drinks to share!
If you would like to suggest a topic or be put on an email distribution list and from time to time receive resource materials and reminders, send an email request to [masked] - PLEASE SPECIFY that you want on the Humanist Study Group list!
Also, note that many participants in this group do not reserve through this Meetup site. We generally have a pretty good group, so do not be dissuaded from attending if only a few have signed up here!
