DOG WALK FOR SAT. DEC 27 is a "fluid" event - so if anyone has a dog in Johnson County (or in other areas volunteer to start your own dog walk) and they'd like to walk over the holiday weekend, please RSVP to [address removed] and we can get a few of us together, not necessarily in the doggy park but just in the streets is OK too.

    Additional Information: SOS meets weekly at Westport Coffeehouse. While the name implies an interest only in alcohol addiction, all addictions will be the subject of the group. Anyone who has alcoholism, a drug addition, an eating disorder or any other type of addiction is welcome. The group will address these addictions without involving religious beliefs, but you do not need to be an atheist, agnostic or other free thinker to participate.

    Additional Information: This week, the group will watch a recording of the debate between Mike Licona and Bart Ehrman last February 28, 2008, at the Midwest Baptist Theological Seminary. The running time including the question and answer sessions is 2 hours and 5 minutes, so the meeting will start on time in order to allow some time for discussion. This is not your normal religious studies class that seeks to learn the "truths" of the religion. Rather we look to see if there are any truths in the various religions. We ask such questions as does it teach acceptable morals; is it historical; why are the sacred texts given such esteem? Mike Shryock and his wife are graciously inviting Kansas City FreeThinkers to their New Years' Eve Bash!  The Event is kid freindly, so bring your kids, teenagers including. Mike's 20 year old son will keep them busy with Xbox360.  Bing A SIDE DISH (they will provide basic munchies) - don't forget TO BRING YOUR WINE, LIQUOR AND OTHER BOOZE. Mike's house is 6 miles North of Smithville, MO - it is Norht of Kansas City (25 miles from downtown Kansas City) so you need to plan your drive accordingly and make sure you have a designated driver or drink moderately!
