Mission Adelante: Christmas Party Photos

We have an opportunity to provide the following community give-back.  Mission Adelante (http://www.missionadelante.org/ ) is in need of updating their website as well as providing some great candid shots to share with the community or attendees.

At the time of the shoot, we will provide you instructions for submitting your best 10-15 shots.  These will be collected and shared with the Mission.

The web designed has asked for the following:

 -  A lot of depth of field

 -  Keep the word community in mind while shooting

 -  Can glean ideas and inspiration from "street photography" styles.

A thank you from Jason -
    Dear KC Photo MeetUp Group,
Thank you for coming to Mission Adelante over the last two months to serve our ministry through the art of photography. Each of you knows well the power of pictures and especially, quality pictures and you captured the faces of our community so well.
We love telling stories and your photo images will help tell stories of the rich community at work when immigrants and native born come together to serve and share life. Additionally, they work to invite others in our community and beyond to see the amazing opportunities to understand and befriend immigrants in our midst.
Thank you again for serving our community and our ministry with your talents.
    Best to you,
Jason Schoff for the Mission Adelante Staff

I'll plan on being at 1st Baptist around 4:30. I've never been to a meetup, though, so I don't know anyone! It's there a meetup spot that I should look for you guys? Excited!

I will be there around 4:00ish. Bethany is right - look for adults with cameras around their necks! We will be on the look out for folks as well. Once we how many photographers we have, we may decided to divide locations a bit. But it should be fun! Thank you all!!

Sorry I have been out of pocket - family emergency. Bethany - thanks for clarifying! You are correct in what you said, in fact, you have more information I had when I set this up!

I am going to start at the 1st Baptist Church on Saturday. I suggest that anyone wanting to attend - just show up between 4 and 6. We can divide up as needed. Since the events are long, we did not want to ask someone to attend for 4 hours - but there is so much going on we want to get some good shots at all the events.

I had hoped to figure out a way to do some family shots and get them some prints back to them, but that runs into quite a bit of money and there are a lot of families. So - we are sticking with candid shots. I agree with Bethany - the people are wonderful and they have so much fun! I will be there around 4:15-4:30 on Saturday. Hope to meet many of you!

Joe and Jeannette, I'm not the organizer of this but I did attend the shoot last tuesday... There are 3 different events on Saturday. I'm thinking the reason Cindy put them all in one event on here was because meetup.com doesn't show the event to the whole group until a certain number of people sign up (I think that's how it works but I'm not 100% sure). So to get it out to the group faster so everyone could see it, she put all 3 shoots in one event on here. There are two shoots for the Latino groups at 1st Baptist church, one from 4-6 and the second from 6-8. The third event listed is for the Bhutanese group at the community center from 5:30-8. As far as equipment goes, I would plan in low lighting and a fast lens is going to beneficial. I know there will be dancing at the Bhutanese event and I struggled to get non-blurry pictures when I tried to photograph the dancing.

No problem! I guess I didn't mention that you sign up for just one (or if you want to stay at 1st Baptist for both events you can do that too!)... I had a blast when I went, I encourage you to go if you can!! The Bhutanese were lovely people and the kids and teens were so fun!

I too am confused about the times and location? Being simple minded; just provide a single time and location to meet up. If there are modifications or variances, like different locations, where the group needs to split up, we can discuss that when we meet up.

I also have a question about the equipment needed? Probably a flash will be required, but how about a tripod? Will I need a wide angle lens or will a prime lens suffice? I am not familiar with inside the church or the locations where the pictures will be taken, so some help is needed.

Cindy, I'm a bit confused on the different locations and various times...sorry if this has already been discussed. I didn't see it anywhere.
