Drum Basics

  • Apr 17, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We cover techniques and basic djembe rhythm parts, and have added dunun rhythms to our curriculum. Relaxed, inclusive environment. You don't have to know ANYTHING to attend.

If there are new students, we will go over the basics at the beginning of the class - that is how to hit the drum for bass, tone and slap, intonation, etc.

We will start working on rhythms at 7:00, and finish around 9:00. It's fun! Just ask anyone who's attended in the past.

Bring your drum.  If you need to borrow a drum, please contact me so I can arrange to have enough available.

Cathy is always such a patient teacher. Without her wonderful introduction, I would not be as excited about the Djembe.

Good class tonight! Everyone played all the parts of Belladi/Saidi! Aracely continues to challenge herself, and David, in his first week of drumming, tuned their drums himself! Marianne remembered more about drumming than she believed she would. (It was a mini Djembe Djanes reunion with Marianne, Mary and Elaine!) Billy was very helpful to Linda, who did very well for her first class! Cree and Lila continue to do well! Bill got to break out his dumbek and folks experimented with different percussion instruments for the improvisional part of the evening. We welcomed Tracey for her first class with us - it's clear she's played before. All in all, a lovely evening, lots of laughter, with drumming dedicated to peace and healing. Thank you all for coming out! Let's do it again in a week!!

    Hi, Cathy-

We just bought 2 djembes, and have been having a lot of fun. Thanks for introducing us to it. I will be bringing a new friend with me on Wed, but she does not have a djembe yet. Can she borrow one from you? Thanks.
