Our Group's Purpose

To experience sailing adventures in and around Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico along the Texas Coast.

This group is still young and we're still learning as we go.

You are welcome to come and help crew.
Or if you like you can lounge around and get a great tan.

Choosing Events

WE WANT VARIETY!!!

We'll add things that interest us and ANYONE can suggest an event. If you have any ideals on an adventure....JUST POST IT......and if there's interest we'll add it to the event list.

Not only can you suggest an event, you can even lead it if you know what you're doing. Sometimes we like to follow too.

The more people who participate in the group, the better the group will be!

Signing-up and getting kicked out

It's easy to sign-up for our group and the approval process is just a formality.

Hopefully we won't need to worry about kicking anyone out of the group... If someone does something so bad we don't want them in the group, we'll just arrange a "Man Overboard"...

Endangering someone or being a total idiot is the fastest way for a speedy exit (from the group that is ).

So many groups have dozens of "Members" yet very few participants. We don't want to become one of those groups. We realize that everyone can't participate in every event, but if you haven't logged on for three months you'll be considered an "INACTIVE MEMBER" and we'll delete your butt from the list.

If you do get deleted, don't freak-out and take it personally. If you're deleted and later you decide you're ready to participate, just re-join the group.

We'll also be inclined to delete you if you constantly say "yes" to events and then don't show up. See RSVPing below.

Meeting us

A lot of MEMBERS are concerned about meeting us for the first time. So far everyone has been great. Come and meet us at the dock before we leave for the event.
We will be at close quarters, sometimes have to raise our voice to make sure that we are heard over the wind and waters.
We want everyone to be comfortable when they meet us. If you meet us, and don't like us or have that bad vibe, walk away, no feelings will be hurt.
Come back and check us out at another time when you feel right.

Experience and Age

It is not necessary to have any experience to sail with us. You will learn about sailing the more you attend the events, just listening to others talk and watching. The sailing lingo will eventually set in and soon you will be saying to Port or to Starboard.
If you have kids they are welcomed as long as they keep the ipods, cell phones, game boys, rap music at home.

Equipment

Some events require equipment (wind breakers, rain jackets, sun screen, hats etc). The weather is always changing on Galveston Bay so come prepared.

There's a good chance someone in the group has extra stuff laying around.

RSVP's

We REALLY appreciate it when people RSVP "Yes" or "No" for events. You won't see a lot of "maybe" options as you're either going to be there or not. So if you are the type who wants to wait and see if something better is going to come along, just go ahead and RSVP "No".

We use this information to prepare the event and to gauge interest. If you sign-up as a "Yes", PLEASE FOLLOW THROUGH AND SHOW UP!!!! We don't want to stand around waiting for someone that's not going to show. If you continually "no show" we will delete you from the group as no showing is just plain rude! If you are running late just call 713-829-2164 and let us know that you are running late and most likely we will wait. We all run late with the traffic around Clear Lake

If you sign-up as a "No', that's cool, we understand. It's perfectly ok to say "no" and then change your RSVP to "yes" if you find that you can attend.

THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO RSVP. If you aren't sure how, drop us a line, we're always happy to help.

IF YOU RSVP "YES" I WILL NEED A CONTACT PHONE NUMBER IN CASE OF AN UNFORSEEN CANCELLATION.
e.g. WEATHER ISSUES. AND TO CALL YOU IF YOU ARE RUNNING LATE TO SEE IF YOU ARE STILL COMING

Cost

Some events may require an additional fee (IE Entrance fee, dock rental, bail money, etc ) and we'll try to list all costs on the Event page.

Occasionally, we'll go out to eat or drink after an activity and you're responsible for your own food and bar tab!

Weather

The weather may present additional challenges for some events, but it can also offer some incredible rewards.

We're the Adventurer Group, not the #@&?$ Mall-Walkers Group! Sun is beautiful, rain is necessary and thunderstorms are SEXY! We'll try to schedule events that are appropriate for the season but we plan to enjoy whatever happens.

If the forecast says, "Sunny" bring sunglasses, if it says, "Chance of rain" bring a poncho, if it says' "Snow flurries" wear a coat. Yeah Right!!

We probably won't cancel an event unless the National Guard instructs us to stay in our houses or we risk damaging the environment by doing the event in the rain.

Solicitation

Please don't ask for donations to your favorite charity, solicit business or a loan to pay your electric bill. Don't ask us to vote for you, buy Girl Scout cookies, find you a job, join your cult or date your mom.

If you send us spam, your name will IMMEDIATELY be placed on the "Man Overboard List".

Sooo.... LET'S GET OUT THERE, GO SAILING AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!
