Tonights event will be hosted by former Meetup organizer Barbara Larisch!!!
According to Wilber'sTwenty Tenets of Evolution, holons display four fundamental capacities: self-preservation (agency), self-adaptation (communion), self-transcendence and self-dissolution. Interestingly enough, there are a handful of prominent research psychologists who would agree that the dialectic tension between agency and communion represent the "fundamental modalities of human existence" and thus they have been named, "The Big Two".
All too often however, agency and communion are mistakenly conflated with the masculine/feminine and there has been a shared desire as of lately to see if we can possibly parse these two apart.
For example, how are agentic and communal orientations related to our ways of knowing, our personality traits, our self-concepts, and the defense mechanisms that we employ? Tonight we'll explore together what the most recent research has revealed on this topic and hopefully we can re-conceptualize how the individual and collective is situated on the kosmic map in light of this new information.
Please come join us as we revisit agency and communion from the perspective of the I, the We, and the It and experience this polarity from the subtlest vibrations of a holon to the sweeping patterns of existence across time.
The format for this evening will include a brief talk led by Barbara Larisch followed by an open discussion.
