If you have a favorite Linux distribution, what is it?

Unbuntu - Still using Hardy Heron. Maybe someday I'll get around to upgrading it.

What do you use Linux for? Work? Personal? Some specific task?

I use primarily Linux for personal use. I have a Linux server that I use primarily as a file server, but it also has MySql, Postgress SQL, and Apache for learning and experimentation. I like to use Linux for trying out interesting open source programming languages, some of the classics. I have off and on been tinkering with Bash, Python, Lisp, OCaml, and Prolog, for example.

Would you say you are a newbie, professional, or guru?

I'm probably still classified as a newbie, but with a few years experience and some programming skills.

Introduction

Although am a software engineer who has programmed professionally on the Microsoft platform for 22 years, for the last 5 or so years I have used Linux as my primary personal computing platform and have been dabbling in learning to program Linux.
