If you have a favorite Linux distribution, what is it?

RHEL / CentOS I started out with Red Hat and kind of default back to it, although I have Ubuntu 12.04 on my personal laptop and am getting used to apt :-)

What do you use Linux for? Work? Personal? Some specific task?

I use Linux on my laptop so I can attend security conferences like DefCon and not have to worry about being instantly rooted :-) At work, I'm mostly involved in Mac OS X, but am back on a task that lets me leverage centOS 6 again

Would you say you are a newbie, professional, or guru?

All of the above. There's always more to learn! Sometimes I really impress myself with how clever I am, and then find that someone else did the same task more efficiently, faster, whatever.

I've been using Linux and UNIX in one form or another since 1997 and attended many KPLUG meetings for a few years back then.
