3 in 1 Event: Bike Maintenance, "1st There, 1st Care" Training & 1 hr Group Ride

Instead of paying someone else, SAVE YOUR MONEY & lets ride our bikes to Free State Cycles in Clinton, Maryland. While there, you will learn how to change your oil, fluids, spark plugs, replace lights and air filter. Do you know how to check your tire pressure? What do you need to do to get your bike ready to ride for the 2013 season? What type of tire gauge should I use? How many quarts of oil and filter do you need for your bike? What is TCLOC or SIPDE? Decision making processes that helps you manage risks and enjoy a safe, comfortable ride. Each letter of SIPDE represents an action for the rider

How often should you change your oil?

Cost: $10.00

This is a great opportunity to become familiar with your bike as well as save money on routine maintenance costs. If you have other maintenance questions, just post your questions here.

More information coming soon.

:::::::::::FIRST THERE, FIRST CARE TRAINING ::::::::::::::::::

Do you know what to do if a fellow rider goes down?  Do you have a first aid kit?  Can you render aid?  Do you leave the helmet on or take it off?

Get these answers and so much more from the professional.  This will be a 90 minute presentation on everything you need to know to administer aid as a first responder on the scene of an accident.

If you think you can make a tourniquet out of your belt, you should be here.

If you don't know the 2 different types of ambulances, you should be here.

If you think you can't fit a first aid kit on your bike, you don't have one, or don't know how to use one, you should be here.

If you love to ride, you should most definitely be here!

The knowledge gained from this $10.00 event is invaluable!

::::::::::KICKSTANDS UP: Rte 6 Port Tobacco ::::::::::::

We did maintenance on our bikes!

We are now knowledgeable in administering Aid to fellow riders (First There, First Care).  Now lets ride!!!!  This will be approximately one hour ride with great turns, that funky bridge and rolling farm fields.

Thanks so much for sharing. You are right, it's better to be knowledgeable about what to do in case of such an incident even if, we are never called into action. I guess we need to have this training again for those who could not make it saturday.

    April 21, 2013

    • Tammy

Hi Gwen, In the event, (at the top) Click, "Add Photos" (should be on the left) Or, on the right of this page it says, "upload" underneath some photos already posted. CLICK then, "Browse" then select the pics from your "location, ie. camera/computer then, I think "Save and FINALLY, Upload.

James I suggest you "create" an event instead of posting this on today's event. It can confuse riders about the meetup location. Hope to meet you soon on a KU event.

Good evening all, I rode the route for tomorrow and I must say, you will find it very very enjoyable. If you are not comfortable with curves and dips, I suggest novice riders ride toward the front and middle. The storm caused minor damage and, Power is out right now in some areas of Clinton. Weather forecast is pleasant Saturday so, lets hope so.

The Free State Trip should be a good educational experience for those who are scared, timid or lack the knowledge to work on their machine... I do all the scheduled maintenance on my bike including changing tires, oil changes and mods. I don't have to wait on a shop or pay the high prices... Learn to do as much as you feel comfortable with to save whatever you can. There is a feeling of accomplishment when you do it yourself. Ride Safe...

What is different about an oil filter wrench for a bike as for a car? I'm assuming the end cap type as opposed to a strap wrench, side wrench since space is at a premium.

      April 18, 2013

Have you ever tried to get the dashboard off? Auto engineers seem to have made a special effort to hide the screws that hold it together. I've had difficulty getting the covers off a wide range of things without breaking them. That's all.

    FIRST THERE, FIRST CARE TRAINING
I use to be a Red Cross BLS (Basic Life Support) Instructor. Everyone should understand what should/need to be done if they are the first person to arrive on scene. I carry a first aid kit on my ride...

    April 4, 2013

    • Tammy

Smart move KC. I carry a trauma kit, an umbrella, water and a flashlight (smile) Although we all have "riding" in common, being prepared is just as important. Hope to see you on the 20th as your knowledge and experience as a BLS may be very insightful.

    Food for thought:

Keep your bike in good repair. Motorcycle boots are not all that comfortable for walking. Funny but true... LOL

    1 · April 4, 2013

  • KC

This is good, not just for maintenance, but to learn your bike. Its better to learn now then when something happen on the road and you have no clue whats wrong, where things are or what to do... Its a lonely place on the side of the road. Been there done that, several times...but learn from the experience.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
