The straight distance between Harwood, MD and Bowie, MD is[masked] mi, but the driving distance is 18.7 mi.

It takes 29 mins to go from Harwood, Maryland to Bowie, Maryland.
For the area this route is very good. Use some caution when heading North across 214, there is a hump in the road and if you are accelerating hard your front end will lift up. This route may be altered if, "Governors Bridge Road" is still closed. Route is Governors Bridge Road to Patuxent River Road to Harwood Road.

ok everyone...if you truly LOVE to ride back roads...winding roads, few traffic lights and stop signs...eat your wheaties and sip your coffee cause we are doing the dang thang Saturday morning to Williamsburg. YES, one group with a "middle" lead and "tail gunner. If you miss a traffic light don't fret, the middle lead with become the lead so you can catch up to the flashing emergency signals. We will NOT pull over but ride slow in the far right lane. Know your HAND SIGNALS; KNOW your BIKE and how to LEAN..left and right. I am so excited I will even wash my bike tomorrow. LOL See ya soon. U-Turn will not even use GPS. AUGH! ROUTE HAS BEEN POSTED on the event page. If you can't join us. Put the route in your GPS and Ride it SOLO. You will enjoy the ride.

I really want to come to this, but don't feel experienced enough to drive alone from DC to Bowie :( The next close one I'm in, though!

Thanks for leading me back. When I got on 495 the traffic was so bad that I got off and came in to DC on Pennsylvania Ave anyway. Just beat the rain home!

      June 8, 2014

    • Cathy

Sorry to hear that. Happy you made it before the rain.

Home. Thanks to Tammy and James. Great to see everyone. I wish I was a wired for Saturday Night Live. Our waitress would be great raw material for a skit!

    • Vincent C.

I meant "writer," not "wired!" Dumb iPhone!

      June 8, 2014

  • James

Home safe! For all that were left behind, my apologies :-( Hope all had a good time anyway! After all, it all about the ride!

    June 8, 2014

  • Tammy

been home. Thank you so much James for saving today & leading. A+ since I loss the route on my NEW android phone.Your 1st lead and hopefully not your last.Even though you lost 1 or 2 riders around the roundabout + 8.. All in all EVERYONE had a chance to ride either with the group or as a lone wolf.

    1 · June 8, 2014

    • Tammy

NOTE: this is a voluntary group. We volunteer to plan and lead and sometimes the unexpected (like the route disappearing in your phone) may happen. Take a minute before the ride to familiarize yourself instead of "waiting" on Tammy (smile) If I can't make a ride, the step by step route will be posted for you.

I am not breaking the group up for this ride. There are several winding narrow roads which we will all enjoy so keep up. If you miss a light, I will use the emergency flashers and ride slow until you rejoin the group. (less dangerous than 20 bikes pulling into traffic). I say familiarize yourself with the route so you can enjoy them when riding as the "lone wolf or wolfette". Also since my name is U-turn and I have not rode this route (YEP I said it) You may want to familiarize yourself IN CASE I miss a turn. LOL Well, I've managed to fool you so far into thinking I know Maryland roads. HA HA I just Google the roads and familiarized myself with the turns to make it look easy.

This looks good but it's going to be as cold as a well diggers...elbow and windy too. I have a pair of snowmobile pants that makes me look and move like Gumby. I didn't see the maybe option.
