I'm a children's literature scholar so I think of Aesop's Fables, Johann Amos Comenius, Charles Perrault, Greek and Latin schoolbooks, etc., etc.
I love tales of magic and wonder and also beautifully illustrated books. I have bought broadly over the years but those themes run through my collection.
Any book by Diana Wynne Jones, Andrew Lang's Prince Prigio with the Robert Lawson illustrations, Lawson's The Great Wheel, the Harry Potter series, Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest quartet, etc. etc.
The Oz books by L. Frank Baum, Ruth Plumly Thompson, John R. Neill and the rest.
I read and reread Jean Lee Latham's Carry on, Mr. Bowditch (1956). The story of success against all odds, a loving family in spite of sorrows, and wonderful illustrations, just enchanted me.
Hello, my name is Jenny. I've always loved children's books and kept my own childhood collection and continued to add books. The oldest item in my collection is from ca. 1800 (a chapbook) and I just bought a wonderful British YA published in 2006.
