Welcome to our group in North San Diego County! 

As parents with special kids, we are blessed! Our children are different, see the world in fresh, unique ways, and have an amazing opportunity to use all that wonderful energy and intensity (that we sometimes wish we had) to be powerful conduits of God's purpose in the world. And we as their parents have been given the tremendous challenge and purpose of guiding and channeling that energy, so that it can be used in positive, productive ways. We also have the unique perspective of what it's like to show grace and forgiveness daily =)

I am a mom of a very challenging, but wonderful, charming and bright, almost 4 year old daughter with sensory challenges, language delay and sometimes extreme hyperactivity. Mary was diagnosed at 3 with Autism from UCSD. She's very high functioning, but as I am discovering, that doesn't make all of her challenges disappear. We also have a typical toddler, Ronin, 22 months old.

I believe that we are called to live in community with one another, and parenting a special needs child has special challenges all its own that parents of "normal" kids, and even some educators and clinicians, have trouble truly grasping.

It is my hope that this group will provide mutual support and caring, and information/resource sharing for parenting challenges and school problems. It is a place to talk to other parents who truly understand the paradox of struggle and joy it is to parent your special child, and will NOT pass judgement or blame for your child's behavior on you! I plan to organize playgroups in the North San Diego County area, and would like for members to be able to share books and resources and exchange parenting tips and prayer requests. I would also LOVE to schedule expert guest speakers every once in a while! But we'll see what our schdule allows. I know we are all very busy parents!
