How Kinder Moms Began

There's really no other way for me to write this but in first person so here is my story. For those who might not know who I am or whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Susan Lecher, and I am the founder of Kinder Moms. KinderMoms began as just an idea and out of a need. A need for myself as a stay-at-home mom and new to New Braunfels to get out of the house and meet others and to make new friends for myself and my daughter. At that time my daughter, Priscilla, was only about 16 months old.
Here is a picture of us from 2005:

I found it amazing how hard it was to meet other moms. Sure we'd meet some moms out an about in town and maybe on occassion start up a chat with someone but that's as far as it would go. When the idea came to first start a "moms group" there was not many choices here in town. In looking for a way to start this group I stumbled upon Here was my answer, the tools I needed. has come a long way since it's early days, too, and offers much more now than it did in the early days. So, on January 7th of 2005 I sat at my computer and began KinderMoms. However, we were first called Moms & Tots. This was our logo:

Our first members were friends I had convinced to join and the very first meetup that I posted was at Chick-fil-A. I was the only one who attended. It would of been easy for me to just forget about the whole thing right then and there but I truly felt there was a place for us here in New Braunfels and that eventually others would see the need for our group, too! Over time, we gained some new members and had some more meetups and eventually we started to gain a core group of women who believed in what we were trying to accomplish.
Some picture of our first meetings:

KinderMoms has always been a personal passion of my own but it wasn't alone that we became what we are today. There have been many others who have dedicated their time and talents to contribute to KinderMoms. There were a few times in the early stages of our group that I carried it on my own but thankfully there was always someonen who stepped up to lend a hand.
Some of them are still here and some of them have since moved on but it's important for us a group to realize and remember that it takes action to get things done. That to keep a group like this moving forward requires someone pushing from behind. Although I will always be in the background, lending my support and knowledge, we now have a new set of Organizers who have taken the reigns of steering our group into the future. It's my hopes that this group will continue to not only grow but blossom, even long after those of us who started it have moved on.
