Join us in Fairmount Park for a spring celebration of Japanese arts and culture! Sakura Sunday is Philadlephia’s own o-hanami,¬ the Japanese tradition of revelry beneath the blossoming cherry trees. The centerpiece event of our Festival will feature live music, dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, tea ceremony presentations, origami and calligraphy workshops, shiatsu massage, Japanese food, and much more. Stop by Shofuso Japanese House and Garden for a tour of this magnificent historical treasure. Shuttles will transport visitors between Center City and the Horticulture Center.

The cherry blossom festival runs from March 6th to April 7th with many wonderful events. For more information.

So much to do and see. If you want to get learn about Japanese culture this is the place to do it. There is something for everyone. I especially enjoyed the Japanese Rock/Punk/Enka band. It was great to see the young people excited about some aspect of Japanese Culture: the kimono's, the weapons, anime, cosplay, gaming, for the teenagers; origami, windsocks, calligraphy, sumo robots, face painting, temp tattoos, for the younger children. Taiko Drumming, martial arts demonstrations, sushi and raw fish, souvenirs and more for everyone else. I had a great time. Especially the rock band.
