Summer Solstice Kirtan Dance Party with Sangita Devi!

  • May 31, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • the Dance Garden

Kirtan, the chanting of sacred sounds, is sung in a call and response style and promotes deep states of tranquility, inner peace, and bliss. The LongDance is a meditative dance experience that connects us with our deepest selves, our community, the Earth, and with Spirit.

Sangita Devi is a Kirtan group based in Asheville, North Carolina. They have been leading Kirtan every week in Asheville for 11 years now. Directly translated, Sangita Devi means Songs of the Divine Mother. Over the years they have been fortunate to play with many of the premier Kirtan Wallahs including Jai Uttal, Dave Stringer, Donna Delorey, Bhagavan Das and David Newman – to name a few.

Kevin Meyer has been facilitating Sacred Circle Dance in the Knoxville area for the past 14 years. All dances will be taught and no partner or experience are necessary.

There was plenty of delicious food, but the best part of the evening was the meditation dance. The band was the perfect accompaniment. I felt spiritually renewed.

Take the Parkway to Dutchtown Road, exit east (towards Knoxville) onto Dutchtown. Go around a bend, and turn left onto Bob Kirby Road (just before the Webb School). Take the first right onto Cortez Drive. Proceed to the bottom of the hill, Diane & Kevin are on the right at #9708 Cortez Drive.

Exit I-40 at Cedar Bluff. Take the right fork at the ramp, turn left at the light at the bottom of the ramp, then turn right at the light onto Cedar Bluff Blvd. Go through one light. Turn left at the second light onto Dutchtown Road. Go roughly a mile and a half and turn right onto Embarcadero Drive (if you get to the Webb School, you have gone a little too far). Go one block and turn left onto Cortez Drive. Kevin & Diane are in the third house on the left, #9708 Cortez Drive.

It's fun to share what you're bringing. We're making a Scheherezade Casserole, from the Moosewood Cookbook, it has soybeans, bulgur, tomatos, green pepper, onions, garlic, spices, fresh parsley and home-made tofu feta. Yumm!! 8-)

We will have some picnic blankets spread out on the grass. You may want to bring a blanket or low chair.

We like to have lots of candles for the center of our dance circles at our solstice gatherings. Please bring a votive candle to add to the center. Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
