Please join us on Sunday night, August 7th at 6 pm for our monthly Vegetarian Class and Potluck Supper.

Please welcome Mr. M. K. Anand as our newest guest demo chef. Mr. Anand is a Knoxville resident for the past 4 years, having moved here from Canada, Abu Dhabi and India. A mechanical engineer by education, he currently works with Bechtel Power Corporation as a nuclear plant design engineer. He is also a city coordinator for the Art of Living Foundation (, teaching stress relief techniques through breath work, yoga and meditation. Along with his brother in Tamil Nadu, India, Anand runs an organic agricultural venture, providing quality produce, Ayurvedic herbs, and biomass products.

Mr. Anand has been trained in vegetarian cooking at the North American Art of Living Ashram and has been cooking and teaching for the last 7 years. As a former non-vegetarian and being exposed to cuisines from all over the world, he gives an unique perspective on making the vegetarian choice exciting, simple and a means to spiritual well being. He will give an overview of the Indian vegetarian food system and discuss food as a source of Energy and its effect on well being. Then, along with his assistant, Jennifer Hamilton, a local vegetarian chef, artist and volunteer with the Art of Living Foundation, he will demonstrate simple Indian Dal (lentil soup), Vegetarian Shrimp Curry (using soy shrimp), and Paneer Burji (Indian cottage cheese and vegetables).

We will begin at 6 p.m. at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on Kingston Pike in Knoxville. We will share a vegetarian/vegan potluck supper. Please bring a vegetarian/vegan dish to share.

There will be a small collection of money to help offset the room rental. Cost is $2 for members and $3 for guests.
