Lee Byung-hun ("The Good, the Bad, the Weird" and the upcoming "RED 2") takes on a dual role in Choo Chang-min's period court drama "Masquerade," which speculates on 15 days that went missing from the record of Prince Gwanghae's[masked] reign.

The film topped the Korean box office for five consecutive weeks starting with its Sept. 13 release and is currently the seventh-highest-grossing Korean film of all time.

For those who wish to purchase a discount ticket(s), send $8 per person through PayPal to albertleelim [at] hotmail [dot] com, designating the payment as a gift or payment owed. Refunds to those who cancel by 5 p.m., Oct. 29.

Synopsis: Driven to paranoia by fears of an assassination attempt, a king (Lee) hires a commoner (also Lee) to stand in for him -- with unexpected results.

"A beautifully written, and finally emotionally involving, Joseon-dynasty drama which is one of the best South Korean costume dramas in years." -- Derek Elley, Film Business Asia

"A sweepingly entertaining, lavishly appointed spectacle ... the aristocratically handsome, versatile Lee Byung-hun really delivers the goods." -- David Noh, Film Journal International

Everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle drawing to win one of Lee's films on disc: "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" or "I Saw the Devil."

We'll meet and greet over eats afterward.  Join us!

A joy to watch: sumptuous but loose-limbed, never afraid to laugh at itself while priming audiences on the glories and intrigues of the Korean court. And if director Choo is a master of tone, so is Lee Byung-hun, with a performance that covers the spectrum from subtle to broad, from stately to buffoonish. No starch in this costume drama.

What an incredibly moving film. I balled my eyes out several times towards the end of the film! Looking forward to meeting you all next time as well!

I received prepayments from the following people: Eric Ma, Morgan, Jennifer, Sharon Shin and Jaesung Park. Brian Hahn (whose Meetup name is Sejin Hahn, I assume), your prepayment came in after the cutoff time that I listed (5 p.m. Oct. 29), so I've refunded it. See me at the theater early, and I may be able to sell you one of the few extra discount vouchers I'll be bringing.

General. I do ask that everyone check in with me before heading into the auditorium, though -- that way, I can make sure everyone gets to the right place and gets to sit with fellow Meetup people (if that's their thing).

OK, I'll save an extra ticket for you tomorrow. Next time, please remember to write a note with your prepayment, or else I have no way of knowing who you are or which event you're paying for. (I usually have several events scheduled at once, and PayPal doesn't itemize well.) Btw, I couldn't find any e-mail from you. See you tomorrow.
