Dark Knight Rises (Batman) in IMAX at the Smithsonian

What: A true IMAX experience, watching Batman

Why: Over an our of this film was shot on using IMAX film and edited from the original film negative. The Smithsonian houses the only real IMAX theaters in the Washington, DC area, the other theaters only have the IMAX experience which is a much smaller screen compared to the normal one (it's still larger than a normal screen).

Like with The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan decided to film sequences of the sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, in 15/70mm IMAX. Nolan elected not to film in 3-D and stated that he intends to focus on improving image quality and scale using the IMAX format. In a Hollywood record,Rises will feature over an hour of footage shot in IMAX (in comparison, The Dark Knight contained less than 30 minutes.)

Where: Johnson IMAX Theater @ Natural History Museum; Smithsonian Metro Stop, Mall Exit

Cost: $15

When: Tuesday July 31st @ 7:45 PM

I do apollogize to everyone who came out, the sheer number of people who were at last night's performance was unprecedented. They don't usually have that many people during the week so not sure why so many people decided that Yesterday was the night to go.

Don't worry, Theodore. You are more than welcome. I've been to a few events with this Meetup but haven't met half the people on the RSVP list for this one. So you won't be the only person who feels like the new guy.

Also, the Natural History Museum is within short walking distance from the following Metro stations: Federal Triangle, Archives, and Smithsonian.

So far, I haven't seen any shows get sold out on a weekday. I will probably just buy my ticket for the 7:45 show before going to dinner. If you want to buy online, go here: http://purchase.tickets.com/buy...

Good points Natasha. In that case, I vote for Tuesday, July 31st, 7:45 PM at National Museum of Natural History, Johnson IMAX Theater, with possibly meeting for dinner before the movie.

Just send out an email but I vote for next week

This is the for the 4 pm show, correct?

    July 25, 2012

I vote for Saturday, July 28th, at 4:45 PM in the Natural History Museum! Then dinner afterwards.
Discount tickets of 10 or more would have to be purchased in advance... so I'm not sure what is the best way to do that for the group.
