I was fluent as a young child but never formally studied Korean. I understand hangul, but am in no way proficient in reading and writing. Since childhood, I gradually lost my ability to converse in Korean. I surprise myself, however, that I pick a lot back up when I go to Korea.
In October, while visiting my cousin who still lives and works in Seoul, we went on a search for dolmen on Kangwha Island. We eventually found three sites up in the hills after hiking up and down the hills.
I was raised in Seoul by missionary parents, living most of that time in Yonhi-dong. I left Korea in the early 1970's for college. I am diversity director for the National Association of REALTORS. My last visit to Korea was in the fall of 2013.
