Ooops.. weekend time, ASL, KJOA TV, and.. Picnic Time! 피크닉 BBQ! Special Weekly 스터디 모임 & Culture Exchange

Hello.. 안녕하세요 Annyong Haseyo?!  For many of us, this is a three-day holiday weekend.  (And oops since some of you will get this email twice!).

First, a request from our longtime member Sherly for anyone who can help translate between Korean and ASL (American Sign Language).  She is trying to help people who she knows that need help.  If you know anyone who can - or if you can - do some translation, then please email her here (via meetup - click here).  Thanks!

Want to join our biggest BBQ ever? The picnic/피크닉 BBQ is tomorrow at a park on the Potomac River... we should be there from before 2pm until after 5pm.  You can also rent canoes, kayaks, and bicycles (beautiful place to bicycle on the canal).  And it is "officially" a language exchange event.

There are almost 60 people signed up to go tomorrow, and the weather will be sunny!  Tamara Kim is coming from Seoul, South Korea today after a long time away, and she will be playing guitar & singing for us.  You can find her on YouTube here: (subscribe to her channel to help her get to 1,000... and to get to be the first to see her new videos!).

For those who are going to our event tomorrow:

  • please let everyone know what you are able to bring.  The event is "pot luck" which means people bring what they want, and we are all "lucky" to try different food.  We can use side dishes, fruit (but not watermelon - Phil is bringing some).
  • Jason set up this shared document which anyone should be able to get to with a browser (mobile is okay too!).

If you cannot see the spreadsheet link above, then reply to this email with your plans.

You don't have to bring anything, but it helps when we all try to bring some food or drink.

Please bring extra chairs (folding chairs) if you have any.  Also bring any grills so we can grill more food at the same time.

Do you like Korea? Each week some of us are doing a "live" internet tv show about Korean culture... many of you have seen us film the video on Sundays.  Our show is KJOAtv - "Joa" ( 좋아 ) means "I like" in Korean, and "K" stands for Korea/Korean.  The website is new and you can watch the show now online for free - - and find us on facebook here:

(we will be filming at tomorrow's picnic).

And our meetup group is on Facebook here:

Enjoy your weekend!
