~~~
YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS . . ? It's not Tax Day so chill out or is it the time of the year when your parents ask if you already set a wedding date :-)
It's better than that . . it's the 2nd Picnic, Sports and Games Day of 2013 you've been waiting for since . . .Chinese New Year. With the Asian New Year Festivity somewhat behind us, I trust you have the time, and extra $ you received from family to put to good use and come out to meet everyone, eat, play, and share your Asian New Year stories with us.  So don't be shy and come out and mingle with us! You may come early or after church/temple service or even straight out of bed but "please indicate what you will bring and bring your favorite dish with you".  So let's get pumped up and excited on this Spring and show your new self in the new year!
We'll play volleyball, ultimate frisbee, tennis, football, maybe softball (pls RSVP separately on "that event meetup" to let us know and other games that members may choose to bring to share on this day.  In between the activities, we'll break and enjoy a delicious potluck picnic with old and new buddies! Come by as early as you can as we'll go from 11:00 A.M. to  Sunset on a perfect sunny California Spring day before you head back to being a corporate slave the very next day :-)
WHAT TO BRING
Besides yourself and friend(s), please bring your favorite dish that you’d like to share that's worth at least USD$8 (bring enough for yourself and a few others) and indicate HERE.  If you choose not to bring a dish, the Organizer will be more than happy to collect a donation of $8 to support administrative needs.
Foods to bring:  appetizers, meat entree, noodles/fried rice, vegetables, fruits, desserts, water/juice/ice, plates/utensils/napkins/cups/plastic forks/plastic spoons/plastic plates. NO chips, sodas or too many desserts, please. Please post the dishes on volunteer SS (below link) and try not to duplicate what others already has commit to bringing. Thx for your cooperation in advance. We will be co-hosting the event with other meetup groups like one big extended family. ***If anyone has tennis rackets / football / any eye-catching toys they'd like to play, please let us know or just bring them o.k.! This event is co-promoted with Asian Groupting, OCAP, and the San Fernando Valley Asian Connection
      Thanks again Alan! Just don't use the other photos as blackmail.
      Hello Sean, I don't follow you but the "b" is a scary word right? :) Nevertheless, you got the wrong person and I'm confident whoever you suspect has a good heart and intention behind it. Take care.
      Thanks much Ryan for your many contributions at the picnic. We couldn't have made it happen w/o your 2 tables. Appreciated.
    What a memorable picnic . . what a weekend. Do we have the best Picnic, Games, and Sports with a large turnout in all of Socal or what? Thank U to you all who participated and contributed in it as you all made this very memorable and possible! Some of us made it to softball on Saturday and Picnic, Sports, Games on Sunday to play & make new friends. Can the weekend in Southern California get any better than this? :-) Maybe we should do this every 2 weeks? (I'm just kidding).
    We are aware there were many members that the organizer/event hosts weren’t able to reach out and introduce ourselves but it is a 2-way street and I encourage everyone to take the initiative next time to connect with us too. Let’s work together to break the shyness next time, cool?
    • Alan
      We had hoped everyone could have made it by 12 P.M. so we could all enjoy the fresh/warm food together like one happy extended-family. This time around, we had a lot more sporting events going on – 2 volleyball courts, ultimate frisbee, tennis, flag-football, and kick-ball. We also had a few people playing badminton and hitting/catching balls with a bat in the open field. Since the summer days are getting longer, perhaps we can squeeze in basketball and softball (if the field permit us to do so) next time. I trust everyone had lots of fun playing on a very pleasant day.
      Believe it or not, we are ready to start planning for the next Picnic, Games, and Sports. Since the picnic day/festivity is still fresh in your mind, the organizer/event hosts are eager to sought your inputs from the memorable event:
      -Likes
      -Dislikes
      -What we can do better @ the next Picnic, Games, and Sports event
      We thank U for the warm comments and we look forward to your suggestions. Take good care.
    Well organized, well executed, and loads of fun! I did not plan to play due to a hurt arm and a healing meniscus joint, but went ahead and had a great time. Chilling with new friends and old on a beautiful day with perfect weather, I only wish there would be more days like this. I was fortunate to find myself surrounded by wonderful people all day long.
    Anyone have a badminton set?? If I was a gambling man I'd say out of 150+ Asians someone's GOTTA have a set!?!?
    1 · April 6, 2013
    • Nam
      Hi Jeremy, thank you very much for your input. This is a friendly picnic to meet other people and have loads of fun and enjoy the day...no serious sports played here. Badminton set...just as volleyball, football, softball, tennis, frisbee, and all other 'sports' that we'd be doing is just to have FUN. If you are a "professional" and don't want to lower your standards then you do have the option to sit on the sidelines and watch us have fun. Look forward to meeting you and hope you'd join us to enjoy the day and have a little fun with us!
      April 7, 2013
    • Jeremy
      Oh, that totally came across wrong. I was just pointing out a reason Asians may not be as likely to own a badminton set as you'd initially think. Definitely not trying to say we have no interest in screwing around.
  • Gabe
    Hey APs, I'll bring my wave of plates, utensils, cups, napkins, blah blah blah at probably close to high noon, if not sooner. For those needing the meetup location, looks like it is still spelled out in italics above: "look for us @ east side of tennis courts for a large Asian gathering". (I am just another member). Look forward to meeting some new faces, and also seeing some familiar ones! AP = Asian Professionals
    April 4, 2013
      Ok, I can also bring some extra spoons, forks, plates, cups, napkins, and garbage bags in addition to the folding tables. That should take care of the "$8 donation." :) I have to leave by 5 pm though, so hopefully the tables are cleared out by then.
      April 5, 2013
    • Nam
      Ryan, thank you! We'll start eating all the food on your table first... :)
      April 6, 2013
    EVERYONE: it is going to be a warm day and we need more water, ice, and ice chest. Please add to the volunteer sheet if you can bring. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApnFkty5iV_GdGRmWHY4NWNzUzNFdUdDSzlVS3RKRkE&usp=sharing#gid=0
    Very cool, we already have 8 RSVPs seconds the event was posted. What a lucky #, I sense we can push it to 118 in no time. So don't plan to do your taxes on this day, let someone do it for your for free (search for the org. - VITA) the next 8 days leading up to the 15th :-)
      Why is that dude? Weather looks to be very pleasant on this day, while Sunday may interfere with religious holidays and/or inability to get out of bed after a long "secretive" Saturday night out, imo.
      I'll have to answer that question, offline...or at least not on this page. :)
