Come join a joyous mass of dancing Angelenos for the last of this summer's Downtown Dance series! Over the course of this summer we've learned the Bollywood Dance, K-Pop, Cumbia, 60s, 70s, and more. For our last dance we'll be learning Samba, the spirit of Brazilian self expression.
As a final sendoff this dance will take place in Grand Park, a short walk from the Music center.
What to Expect
• The event is FREE and no tickets or sign-ups are required
• No experience necessary. All ages and levels welcome
• Beginning dance lessons are taught at 6:30, 7:45, and 8:30
• Music provided by DJ and live band
• Food and drink is available onsite
• Dancing is MANDATORY :)
The event is first come, first serve. Arrive early at the Music Center. Walk down towards City Hall. Between City Hall and the Music Center is Grand Park. For those coming late from work, you can still catch the dance lessons at 7:45 and 8:30.
Underground self-parking is available at the Music Center Garage for $9. Look for the entrance on Grand Avenue between First Street and Temple Street.
I also recommend public transit. At the previous dance, several of us took the Gold Line train from San Gabriel to Union Station and the Red Line subway from Union Station to the Music Center. It was super convenient. Why pay for gas and parking and brave traffic when you have a train system that runs all night?
After the last dance we'll take a short trip to Little Tokyo for a late supper. There are a smorgasbord of restaurants open late, including Ramen Houses, Curry Houses, Sushi Bars, Shabu Shabu, and Izakaya. My default is Suehiro Cafe, which offers a range of Japanese cuisine at an affordable fare.
A Final Word
We'll see you there!
