Seattle Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Doodle Romps Monthly Meetup

  • July 13, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Meetup begins at 11:00 AM in Magnuson Park, in the area behind the small dog enclosure. When entering through the main entrance, walk across the bridge and turn right. We often go down to the water after playing on the field--especially if it is a hot day. Due to other obligations (or just sleeping in), the 11:00 AM group may be quite small. Please don't despair--We generally have 18-35 dogs over the course of the next hour and a half--just not all at once. If you arrive a little late and we're not on the field, we're probably down by the water. To get there, go back past the bridge (don't cross it) and follow the trail for about 1/2 mile down to the water.

Maya, who is just shy of 5 months had just such a worrisome moment today, not being able to outrun and ultimately being blown over by a very enthusiastic doodle/poodle. She then was hesitant to re-join the group. So we went down to the beach where, after a while, a lot of other doodles showed up as well. She enjoyed herself there (the focus is on the water, not on each other), and I am sure we'll be back next month. I think it will help to have Maya in puppy school, so she can get used to a smaller group of dogs first. She is completely pooped right now, snoozing, with a smile on her face. Please introduce yourself next time, Jennifer. Maya so enjoys playing with puppies her age.

Hi Brigitte, sorry your pup was run over. As a professional dog trainer I do have some advice here. She's a tad too young to dog park it. It's like placing an elementary size child, physically and mentally on the paying field of pro sized players. While it's ALL fun and games, being tackled or chased by an older dog or a much larger dog can have a life long affect on a puppy. Luckily she's not huge into the fear period but I would for now seek out other smaller nice dogs, or puppies her age to play with and let her build her body and her skills before romping at the dog park. We love, love, LOVE having all of you but we have to advocate for our dogs and the safety for the younger ones for sure.

Hi Becky, and thanks for your input. Having her be a happy and confident dog is my goal as doggie mom. I let Maya be my guide as to whether she likes to do something or not. Her hesitation to return was important information. Her joy and enthusiasm to model after other doodles at Magnuson dog beach was important information as well. She made a nice connection with another young doodle there. Maya is not a fearful puppy and very open and enthusiastic about new adventures. She has some bigger dog friends, but they play, very respectfully, one on one. I want to encourage and support her strengths. Smaller groups are the ticket for now. We'll see you at the beach later this summer!

Jennifer - I think it's best to wait until he's 5 or 6 months to bring him to the dog park. It can get a little rowdy - especially with some of the older puppies and might make for a bad experience for him.

My puppy is 16 weeks. Is he old enough to come? He loves other dogs and humans. Sometimes he can't decide between the two!

Hi Jennifer - Maya is almost 5 months and she is in the same boat - humans or puppies. Around Greenlake everyone is a friend and Maya digs in her heels to meet them. If your puppy's last shots were 10 days ago, he can come to the doodle play. I hope we find each other in the mailay. Maya would love to meet another puppy her size.

    Dear Doodlelovers,

I'm helping to back a Kickstarter fundraising effort to publish a wonderful children's book about a little boy who always wanted a lion for a pet, but eventually settles for a dog that looks like a lion. Charles the Lion Dog is a terrific story based a lot on fact (you've probably heard of him!) and a little on make-believe. Any beginning reader will find it irresistible.

I pledged a small amount to help the project succeed and I get a copy of the book in return. I'm hoping you'll find this compelling and will want to do the same. Click http://kck.st/10INKlH for all the details. If you have any trouble with the link just go to www.kickstarter.com and search for Charles the Lion Dog.

And please pass this on to any friends who you think might be interested. It's a wonderful project. Thank you!

Yay! I think Zoey was the youngest of all the doodles we personally met at the June meetup so looking forward to having another young pup she can meet :-)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
