To all Doodlers--
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that in 9 short months, our little group would grow to 114--the largest doodle meetup membership in the country!
This group was started at 4:00 in the morning, on one of many sleepless nights, after tossing and turning, fraught with worry--where would I find other doodles to play with my puppy, Darwin? I soon had my answer! Nine short months later, has brought the addition of Comet to our family, and 125+ other members. Since many of us are dual doodle families, we represent 125+ dogs! Please take the time to to introduce yourselves and doodles in your profile. You can edit the information by going to the "Members
" area and clicking on 'Your profile' next to the large "Members" above the list.
In the beginning, with Nancy and Emily Thompson as my co-organizers, we kept attendance, issued nametags and recorded information. As the group grew,it became impossible to keep track of all those tumbling, flying doodles! And, with our monthly attendance at 30+ dogs,it became challenging to talk to all of our attendees.
Our group is very informal, so, please don't feel slighted if you haven't been officially welcomed...Just walk up to someone, and introduce yourself and your pup! We all like nothing more than meeting new people to talk about our doodles....
Becky Bishop, the founder of Reading With Rover, has kindly agreed to join Nancy, Emily, my sister Gail and myself as a co-organizer. Becky is also the owner of Puppy Manners Ranch in Woodinville, where she conducts group training, free-range boarding and other pup-related activities--so I really appreciate her experience and expertise. Becky hosted a meetup at her ranch last February, and we hope to be able to repeat again in the coming months. She will keep us informed on the non-profit Reading With Rover program news and events. There are many ways that you and your dog can participate in this program--look for upcoming information!
Like everyone else, I have a busy life which sometimes intrudes on my priorities. I have had some health issues, which have kept me from giving the group the attention I would like. A recently scheduled (out-patient) surgery prevents me from attending the upcoming June meetup, so I am depending on the "old-timers" (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) to introduce themselves and make everyone feel welcome. Although I'm unable to attend, Darwin and Comet will definitely be attending. My sister, Gail, will be attending with Yogi, her 9 month old labradoodle.
I want to remind everyone of the upcoming Sirius About Dogs
weekend events at Magnuson on June 16th and 17th. If anyone is interested in trying to meetup and attend some of the events as a group, I am adding an informal 12:00 noon meeting time on Saturday and Sunday, at the usual field at Magnuson. If people want to RSVP: Saturday Sunday
. No other reminders will be sent for this event. Hopefully, by this time next year, we will be able to organize our own Doodle booth, to educate others on these very special "mutts".
Please support the sponsors of this annual event, and be sure to visit the Reading With Rover booth!
If you haven't RSVP'ed for Saturday yet, please take the time now....June 9th Meetup
. It's really important to let everyone know that we are an active and involved group!
