Hey Gang!! Let's Go Back To The Drive-In!
For A Family-Friendly Night Out!

BUELLER ... BUELLER, FERRIS BUELLER...

Please join Maria AKA BustAGroove and the Eclectic Cinema Fanatics for a unique, tail-gaiting movie experience with Matthew Broderick, and the rest of the cast from the original "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" at a quasi drive-in movie theatre: Angel City Drive-In. Gates open at 7:00 pm and showtime starts at 8:30 pm. Advance ticket sales end on May 23, 2009 at 2:00 pm or when the drive-in has presold 60 tickets.

Plot: "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is one of the Best 50 High School Movies (as rated by Entertainment Weekly) and a 1986 comedy film written and directed by John Hughes. It stars Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey.

The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller who, one spring day decides to skip school and spend the day in downtown Chicago. Accompanied by his girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye, he creatively avoids his school's Dean of Students, Mr. Edward Rooney, his resentful sister Jeanie, and his parents. During the film, Broderick occasionally stops and speaks to the camera to explain to the audience his character's techniques and thoughts.

There are two areas where we can take in all the totally rad Buellerisms:

  • On the Astroturf in front of the 23-foot screen; or
  • In the warmth of our own rides.

You might see kiddies running around the lot in their PJ's. It's common for Angel City moviegoers to sit outside their cars in picnic/patio chairs or in the rear hitches of trucks or SUVs. Most are impressed with Angel City Drive-In's execution of their monthly events. Angel City Drive In has:

  • Trash cans AND recycling bins;
  • A radio transmitter so you could listen with an FM radio receiver;
  • Inexpensive food and drinks;
  • Bathrooms; and
  • Air screen background surface instead of a white wall

Angel City's drive-in car hops will rock, skate, roll, bounce as they take our orders and deliver food from the concession stand. You can order hot dogs, nachos, and any other candy for $3 or less. Drinks are $1 each.

We strongly recommend CARPOOLING for members who live close to each other so that we'll have a better chance to park close as a group. Please specify if you're willing to transport folks or if you need a ride to the event!

Please take time to review Angel City Drive In's FAQs. Yelp! reviewers have rated this drive in with 4.5 out of 5 stars. Angel City Drive-In will show a short film before the feature film.

Please use my contact information (or send Twitter message to "SoCalMovieFans") if you're running late, change in plans or lost. You and your party must be present with the group when they let us into the theatre in order to sit with the group.

    Eclectic Cinema went to the Dark Side of Oz - Angel City Drive-In event in April: http://www.meetup.com/scmfeclecticcinema/calendar/9994777.... Angel City Drive-In may screen "Spinal Tap" in June or later this year.

    This event was a major hit with my teen. It had been quite a long time since i had seen this flick. There were so many laughs especially from the adult audience as Ferris was a major scammer and played all the authority figures so that he could take a spin around town with his girlfriend and best friend. I didn't take note during my first viewing of this film that Ferris mixed some culture in with the fun when they ended up at a museum of art. I like Ferris because he wasn't the type of goof off that was drinkin and druggin -- he wanted to experience life with youthful abandon. There's a scene in this flick where Ferris (Broderick is wearing a hat, trench coat and black slacks) -- which is a precursor to Broderick taking on the role of Inspector Gadget (simliar "costume) in the movie of the same name -- then my teen really though this movie was cool & wants to see it again.

    Another outstanding unique experience organized by BustaGroove! The elusive and endearing Ferris Bueller - under the stars, surrounded by the Downtown skyscrapers, with an eclectic group of Angelinos all enjoying the film --- OH... YEAH.... I had forgotten how much fun that movie was. Thanks again Maria!
