August: Formal presentations, Glendale

*Ops, Devs, All!

For our August meetup we're meeting at DreamWorks SKG in Glendale for an evening of presentations and Q&A with RHEL and Rackspace staff.

First up is William:

A Demonstration of OpenShift - William DeCoste, RedHat

The OpenShift PaaS is moving rapidly towards supporting and managing applications on a wide range of middleware including application servers, business logic/rules engines, service delivery frameworks, data grids, messaging systems, continuous integration systems, and application management systems. These types of applications have been rare in existing PaaS implementations. Equally rare is the ability to run these types of applications in both public and private clouds. This session will demonstrate the deployment, configuration, and management of middleware-based applications to a PaaS using the following open source projects and the latest in cartridge development.

OpenShift Origin – Public/Private PaaS ( https://plus.google.com/communities/114361859072744017486 , http://github.com/openshift)

JBoss Application Server 7 – JEE application server ( http://www.jboss.org/jbossas

JBoss Infinispan – Data Grid ( http://www.jboss.org/infinispan )

ActiveMQ – Messaging ( http://activemq.apache.org )

JBoss RHQ – Application Management ( http://www.jboss.org/rhq )

We'll also hear from Adrian Otto from Rackspace.

Encrypt all the Things - Adrian Otto, Rackspace

Adrian Otto from Rackspace will introduce a new Open Source software called CloudKeep. This key management solution allows you to implement a central, fortified, access controlled, and logged repository for your secrets. Eliminate SSL certificate files on your web servers. Stop keeping database credentials in plain text files that your application can read. Control the secrets using a smarter, more surgical approach. CloudKeep is an OpenStack related project, and will be making its first official release this fall. Get a glimpse at what's coming so you can be up to speed when it touches down.

Building Security: For entry into the building you'll need to provide identification and have your full name whitelisted by building security.  If you'd rather your RSVP/meetup info not include your full name, please feel free to privately message me your name.  DreamWorks has also requested this be a recruiter-free event.

Parking is available on site.

Along with DreamWorks hosting, food is provided by EdgeCast Networks and drinks are provided by Mozilla IT.  We thank our sponsors for supporting us.

See you there!

Awesome meetup last night. It is always interesting to step outside of your day to day to see that the problems you try to solve is not contained only within your organization. Much props for organizing this, and of course to DreamWorks for hosting!

To be clear. that last message means I do not care if you send me your now and did not before: you are not on the RSVP list.

    Love you. Bye.

I'm going to start cutting the RSVP list and releasing it to DreamWorks as of the post of this message.

We'll respect names into the comments here or a message or email to me. If your first and last name does not come up in my search for these messages (and we have plenty), you should not come tomorrow because it will probably suck for you and I will not help negotiate you through security. If that's the case, check up with us in September (informal discussion -- we NEED A VENUE!) or October at Riot Games for formal discussion.

Excited for tomorrow. See you there.

We were just notified that we'll need full names of attendees for security at DreamWorks. If your profile doesn't have your full name or you'd like to plus guests, please feel free to privately message me names. Updating the description.

Just a reminder to get your full name to me if you've not already. Again, this is not a requirement for LA DevOps but rather our venue for August's meetup.

The ability to RSVP will end on Sunday so that we give DreamWorks plenty of time to set up their whitelist for us.
