World Arts Discovery Day

The World Arts Discovery Day at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex is designed to give the community an opportunity to experience and interact with various art forms from around the world. The global village that exists in Los Angeles is rich in culture and artistic diversity and is home to many international artists who have shaped the creative pulse of the city.
The following artists are scheduled for the World Arts Discovery Day:
Fabric Sculpture Making - Lara Schnitger (Netherlands) 10:30 AM
After exploring Dutch artist Lara Schnitger's installation collaborative with My Barbarian, which fuses together visual and performance art, attendees will have the chance to create their own sculptures. All materials will be provided.
Sidewalk Chalk Art - Poli Marichal (Puerto Rico) 11:30 AM
Renowned Puerto Rican artist, graphic designer, and filmmaker Poli Marichal will be on hand to lead and facilitate this exciting sidewalk chalk art activity. Come express your creative imagination using chalk on our Street of the Arts promenade. Chalk will be provided.
African Drum Circle - Pape Diouf (Senegal) 12:15 PM
Senegalese drummer Pape Diouf will lead an African drum circle and work with participants to explore the sounds and rhythms of native African percussions. Perfect for any age and no drumming experience necessary. Instruments will be provided!
Shakespeare Workshop - Will & Company (US) 1:15 PM
Shakespeare group Will & Company will guide participants into the world of tableaux, or frozen images. Using photographs as reference points, the company will use this technique to capture complex emotions in single statuesque poses. This is a great activity for people of all ages to explore the dynamic intricacies of human emotion.
Folklorico Class - Grandeza Mexicana (US/Mexico) 2:30 PM
In anticipation of their upcoming Tercera Raíz show this Spring, Grandeza Mexicana, a local Mexican folk ballet company will lead dancers and amateurs alike in a Folklórico master class and explore the significant African influence that helped create this uniquely Mexican art form.
