Writing concurrent and distributed applications with Actors and Akka

Presenter: Guillaume Belrose (organiser of Scala Jozi)

Guillaume works on distributed systems for the broadcast industry for Quantel, a UK based company.

This session will be an introduction to the Actor model of concurrency (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actor_model) and how you can use it in Scala with Akka (http://akka.io) to build reactive, concurrent and distributed applications.

Akka is a toolkit for writing distributed systems, and it is part of the Typesafe platform (http://typesafe.com). It is Open Source, written in Scala but also offers a Java API and has awesome documentation. There will some slides and some live coding.
