Join as we take in the Lancaster's premiere women's roller derby league!

Formed in 2006, the Dutchland Derby Rollers are a do-it-yourself flat track roller derby league, born as just an idea from a group of gals who love to don eight wheels and skate. They dedicate ourselves to athleticism and community involvement while delivering a strong, positive female image to South Central Pennsylvania.

Tickets can be pre-purchased on the Dutchland Rollers website and are $10 per person in advance, and $12 at the door (cash only at the door).

Well, I tried getting there. My GPS apparently thought Golf Road and Golf Drive were the same thing and sent me down south of Lancaster. When I figured out what happened and plugged in Latitude / Longitude, it sent me to the back woods because it couldn't find Golf Drive. Finally, I found it - and then couldn't find a parking place (at 7:00 PM) and gave up. I guess I had better upgrade (or look on MapQuest first)!

Delphine and I have been there a dozen times, there is a small seating area at one end of the track and yes you can bring your seat but it's small and not really the best spot for picture taking. Most people just seat on the floor of the rink or stand outside of it. To me the floor of the rink is a good spot for picture taking because you will be at waist level of the Derby girls and it will make them look better and also you will be closer to the action. About the flash, the ceiling of that rink is quite high so I doubt about the average flash being able to bounce and if it does you won't get much juice anyway... If you use a flash, shoot directly with a small modifier and a orange gel I think is your best bet. The inside lighting is quite orange to my eyes ;) That was my 2 cents!! Have fun!!

I just wanted to restate the fact, that i talked to a friend that works at overlook rink. He advised me that at a booked birthday party a person took a picture using a flash. The person bounced the flash off the ceiling. The flash set off the alarm system. The rink has sensors that in the ceiling the aim from one end to the other. the flash broke the beam and set off the alarms. i do not believe the team its self will know about this,so they would say that tey do not care about pictures being taken. Take it for what is worth.

Just noticed reading their site, if you purchase general admission seating, there is a seating area but you need to bring your own chair.

Not sure on that point Jeromy. I think we'll be free to roam around prior to when the bouts start, but movement will probably be limited once the action starts. Just a guess though.

I have never been to this rink but at Junior's, we were free to roam as long as you stayed behind the taped line.

Who is the Meet-Up facilitator for this event? Have you made Roller Derby management aware of our plans to be there with cameras? Are there any stipulations to what we can bring? (IE: Can flash be used? Are their any limitations on how the photos can be used, spread, or displayed. ETC.)

I have been in contact with the Dutchland roller folks, they are aware we are coming and in what numbers, they did not mention any restrictions o me specifcally. They know we are coming to take photos and have not mentioned any restrictions.

Note Bob Cunningham's comment on the message baord if you missed it: "I was advised by a friend, that works there, you have to be careful when using flash's. The flash if bounced off the ceiling will set off the rinks alarm system. I thought i should bring it to everybody's attention. see you all there bob cunningham"

Do they know what we're coming and are there any particular photography rules that we should be aware of during the race?

Hi Joseph. I see you never got an answer. I posted a similar question. Let's see if I have any better success.

I did not realize that the derby started so early and I have a mid-afternoon engagement I have to attend. I intend to come but am not 100% sure if I'll be able to join you.

I did want to mention for anyone shooting IR that the rink is lit with fluorescent lighting. I am going to give it a shot but expect the results to be rather poor and at maximum ISO.

I went to purchase tickets online and there is a service fee of $1.34 for a total purchase price of $11.34 per ticket.
