Bald Eagles at Conowingo Dam 2014 (Conowingo Fisherman's Park)

Setting this up for next year - 2014. RSVPs will open a couple of months prior.

Come see the bald eagle congregation at Conowingo Dam. If we are lucky, like the last time, the eagles will be in the trees overhead of where we will be standing, some less than 30' away.

See this site http://www.harfordbirdclub.org/conowingo.html for details. It's the best description of what we hope to see. This is an excerpt from the site:

Bald Eagle numbers vary from a half-dozen in summer to 30-40 in winter. It is not unusual to find 20 in a single scan from November through February. While there are larger concentrations elsewhere, Conowingo is considered one of the best places east of the Mississippi River to view Bald Eagles because the birds are nearly always present in good numbers and viewing conditions are excellent. The sun is nearly behind observers all day throughout the year. About one out of three winters a single Golden Eagle is found with the Bald Eagles.

Directions:

The dam is less than one hour's drive due south of Lancaster, just across the Maryland line. Heading south, once you are across the Conowingo Dam bridge, take the first left, and then take the first left. Basically, follow the signs to Conowingo Fisherman's Park.

There is no charge to enter the park, parking (there is plenty) is free, and children are welcome.

Carpool Information:

Arrive: 7:45AM - Depart 8:00AM
Where: AC Moore
1515 Lititz Pike
Lancaster, PA 17601

If you are carpooling, remember to split the cost of the trip.

Got there late, didn't find the group, because of the crowd, but what a great suggestion for photographing!

I would love to go and had signed up but found out family is coming to town so not this time. Hope the eagles are out in force.

Bummer!! Have to work this weekend and was very much counting on seeing "friends and eagles" instead. Thankfully both are lasting entities.

Just a heads up for this weekend: most of the activity over the past couple of weeks has occurred between the hours of 7 and 9 and 2 and 4. Parking becomes scarce after 7. If you plan on setting up a tripod along the upper fence you will want to arrive no later than 6:30 as the prime spots are quickly filled.

Looking forward to this year's season.
