Landscape Photography | Assignment: Minimalism

Presented by Ed Heaton

Ed's lecture "Composition & Light" will cover the overlooked and sometimes forgotten aspects of image design and the all-important role that light plays in creating dramatic and spectacular images!

Join Ed as he talks in-depth about how to get a better understanding of the basic and advanced concepts of composing compelling compositions and using light to make extraordinary images from ordinary subjects!

Assignment: Minimalism

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect.

Need some inspiration?  Check out these minimalistic photos:

If you don't find yourself particularly inspired by the topic on any given month, we're giving members the option to submit ANY photograph taken that month for the critique. So now there's no excuses! It's time to jump into the deep end and get wet!

A few reminders about some of the basic rules of the assignment:

  • Members may submit 2 photos.
  • Photos should be emailed to Mike the Wednesday prior to the Thursday meeting.

If you have any additional questions about submitting photos or the monthly assignment in general, consult the Assignment FAQ by clicking on the link below:

Remember to get your shots to Mike B (as jpg's please) at [masked].

Ed was a motivating speaker and his portfolio was one to emulate. The concept of his using mainly wide angle lenses for landscapes was enlightening to me as I have mostly done product studio shooting. Can't wait to try some landscape now. Thanks Ed!
