Great! I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people (mostly new too!) that came out to our first official meetup!

I enjoyed myself and hoped I helped someone. All the people I met were friendly and earnest in why they were there. I did find that it took a while for people to find what they were looking for. I don't think the flag thing worked very well. From what I saw, the flags were draped over tables and had objects placed on them, which obscured them. Also, one would have to know what is the flag of that language. I think upright signs stating the particular language would have been preferable.
One thing I did not understand was the request to go to a different table after a half hour. It didn't seem to work. People would automatically go to another table if the table they were at was not providing what they came for.

Hi Guys, I think I'm in the right spot ( ie in an atrium) but I don't see any signs or flags. Can someone let me know where you are?

Hi my name is David and I speak English. I want to speak Korean, Japanese or Chinese (I know that is very round about by they are all connected.) And if there is anyone who teaches or speaks Latin that would be awesome. So I can partner up with a variety.

It's on the street level, between 55th and 56th Streets. We'll be sitting at the chairs and tables there. We may be on the 55th St. side, or on the 56th St. side, depending on available space. We should have signs and flags of different countries, but they may be hard to see. There will be other groups there, playing chess, or older people meeting. But we should be easy to spot if you see mainly younger people, and quite a few Asian people who come to practice and learn English. You'll find us!

ah sorry kkk I will try to get there. Is there any sign that lets me know this group there? How can I see this group at there?
    Sony building? which floor?

    February 26, 2012

  • Allan...

Yes, because the space is a public space in an office building that has a Starbucks Coffee and a restaurant in it. It's like going to a small indoor shopping mall. 100's of people could fit in the space. You'll see when you get there!

By the way, the list of people you see is on the "right", not on the "left" :-)

  • Allan...

Changjoon, it depends on the week and who shows up. We have many who RSVP, and most of them show up. We also have some people who aren't members, and somehow find us. Recently we have had 50+ people come to the meetup. I can help you with your English. Hope to see you there!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
