MONTHLY MEETUP: Architecture - Broad Art Museum / Campus

The Broad Gallery - (547 E Circle Dr, East Lansing, MI ) Is one of the latest architectural wonders to be added to the community. It has  some of the most incredible angles and reflective surfaces. A photographers feast. So lets shoot it! It will be a good exercise in Architectural photography. There are also  a number of surrounding older buildings that have a lot of character.

Parking at MSU is notoriously challenging. Let's meet at the usual classroom parking lot at 6:30 and plan on being at the gallery at 6:50. I will do one of my famous mini-lectures for a few minutes and then cut you loose.

If you can't make the car pool, meet us at the gallery at that time. Let's meet by the front door of the building. And yes, it is closed, at 5:00PM! So all of the shots will be of the outside. Bring a wide lens, a long lens, a tripod, or whatever you want to play with. No requirements. We might make fun of people with camera phones.

Oh yeah, the weather. Who knows? But plan B (inclement weather) is meet at the classroom and we will figure out a way to amuse ourselves. (In a warm dry classroom.)

Below are a couple of shots Michele and I took at the gallery last weekend to hopefully inspire you!   Don't forget to RSVP.

And also don't forget there are some classes coming up including DSLR Lenses and the Basics Workshop on Saturday.

The Broad Art Museum was all I hoped it would be. We had a great time photographing this fabulous building as there simply wasn't a bad angle. The fellowship with fellow photographers was great (as always).

I love meeting up with others who like to make photographs. Mark always gives some good advice to get us started. The end of the night was great when we were greeted by 3 baby bunnies.

GREAT Meetup. As Franklin mention there was an above average of interaction with members. The building is a visual smorgasboard. Looking forward to seeing some posts!

I have a couple questions - I am a total amateur with a very inexpensive DSLR camera (I don't even think I can buy/use different lenses for it) that I haven't even figured out how to use the different settings on. Is it still ok for me to attend? And the other question, is there a cost for this, if so how much? Thanks!

Looks like we have some GREAT weather! Remember to meet at our usual place and carpool over to the Broad if you want to avoid parking hassles. Otherwise meet us at the front door of the building at 6:50.

My friend and I will meet you there. We will probably HAVE to go out to dinner in E. Lansing before the meetup.

Let me just emphasize that this is an outdoor only event. The museum closes at the ridiculous hour of 5PM. I do suggest that you venture over there on a weekend and get some of the interior. It's truly amazing!
