Patent Summit sponsored by Application Developers Alliance

The Application Developers Alliance supports our community by providing a fantastic, daily electronic newsletter, research reports and events and training, most of which are free.

Next month, they will be coming to Cross Campus for a Patent Summit dealing with software, intellectual property rights and more. PhoneGap, you might know, is an open source technology. What does that mean to you? What does it mean to high proprietary technology? Bring your questions and concerns. If you haven't heard, the patent landscape is changing. Come and find out what's going on as a software developer, this directly impacts your livelihood.

The event is free; you can register at http://www.lapatentsummit.eventbrite.com.

Also, the ADA has a survey to help them better understand our needs. It is very brief (90 seconds). Try and fill it out. http://devsbuild.it/polls/mp

The ADA's website is http://www.appdevelopersalliance.org.

Go check out that newsletter!

Event Details

We're talking about patents. Join us!

The software patent system poses a significant challenge for developers. Vague claims, product life cycles shorter than the PTO review process, patent trolls and general uncertainty threaten to stile app industry innovation and growth. Throughout the year, the Application Developers Alliance will host events around the country and invite developers to share stories of Lodsys letters, the challenges they face and the need for software patent reform.

Patents summits will bring developers, policymakers and patent experts together to discuss practical topics like assertion and defense strategies for startups and examine the issue of policy reform.  Each event will feature a patent expert, followed by a panel discussion between policymakers, app developers, and attorneys. The events will conclude with an open Q&A for attendees and a networking reception - including food and drinks.
